We take great pride in transporting our passengers to their desired destination. Who We Serve: EMT serves organizations in the St. Louis, Missouri metro and surrounding areas, including neighboring areas in Illinois, as well as Cumberland, Maryland. These organizations include school districts, hospitals, doctor's offices, and more. We also transport individuals and families to and from appointments or simply when they need a ride. 

Position Summary:  


 

The Student Transportation Aide plays an essential part in ensuring the safe, respectful, and supportive transportation of students and older adults with developmental disabilities. The role requires emotional maturity, patience, and a genuine desire to help others during their daily commute. You’ll contribute to a positive environment where every rider feels secure, understood, and treated with dignity.


This is a part-time position with flexible hours, making it an excellent fit for individuals balancing school, family responsibilities, retirement, or other commitments.



Job Responsibilities of the Student Transportation Aid: 

  • Ability to work independently and as a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with emphasis on timeliness and safety. 
  • Previous knowledge of the functionality of special equipment, such as wheelchair lifts and securement systems, preferred.
  • Effective communication skills 
  • Patience and understanding when working with people with a wide range of disabilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client information.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and evacuation procedures
  • Capability to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors in a calm and safe manner.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to work cooperatively with drivers to ensure passenger safety.
  • Understanding of and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations pertaining to the transportation of individuals with disabilities
  •  This is a part-time position. Candidates must be available to work a minimum of 30 hours per week; however, a 40-hour workweek is not guaranteed.  

Normal Working Conditions: 

This position requires the Student Aide to be a passenger in a moving vehicle for most of the time. While the vehicle provides some protection from weather and elements, frequent exposure to all elements of weather such as wind, rain, snow, and high heat and humidity are common. Additionally, exposure to bodily fluids should be expected.  

Requirements

  Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in a direct-care setting.
  • Experience with early childhood or school-age development strongly desired.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work at least 30 hours a week.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint background check and 10-panel drug screening. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with emphasis on safety, respectful, compassionate service and timeliness.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain certification within 60 days of hire.
