System Operations Analyst

Description

Description of Role:

The System Operations Analyst supports the monitoring, operation, and first-response coordination for Lightshift Energy’s 

battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio. This early-career role blends real-time operational support with technical 

asset management exposure, providing hands-on experience with asset performance, outage tracking, maintenance 

coordination, and lifecycle data used by Asset Management and Operations Engineering.


Key responsibilities will include:


System Monitoring & Dispatch Support

• Monitor BESS assets using EMS, SCADA, and OEM dashboards to verify system status.

• Execute routine dispatch actions and control changes under approved procedures.

• Assist with manual dispatch or control intervention when automated dispatch signals fail.

• Verify correct control mode and escalate discrepancies.


Alarm Acknowledgment & Initial Troubleshooting

• Receive, acknowledge, and triage alarms across BMS, PCS, EMS, HVAC, fire, and communication systems.

• Perform first-pass diagnosis to identify affected equipment or subsystems.

• Escalate persistent or critical alarms appropriately.


Corrective Maintenance & Repair Coordination

• Coordinate corrective maintenance with OEMs, O&M providers, and service contractors.

• Support scheduling of site visits, remote diagnostics, and maintenance windows.

• Ensure Work Authorization and LOTO requirements are met.

• Track maintenance progress and return-to-service timing.


Technical Asset Management Support

• Support asset performance tracking including availability, derates, and outage drivers.

• Assist in outage classification for reporting and warranty purposes.

• Identify recurring issues and performance trends.


Operational Logging & Documentation

• Maintain operator logs for alarms, outages, maintenance activities, and dispatch actions.

• Ensure documentation supports compliance and internal reporting.


Coordination & Communication

• Communicate system status and maintenance impacts to internal teams.

• Support utility notifications and restart coordination.


On-Call & Incident Response

• Participate in rotating on-call coverage.

• Respond to alarms during assigned on-call periods.


Location:

• Strong preference for candidate to report to Lightshift’s Arlington, VA headquarters. We will consider remote 

employment for exceptionally qualified candidates.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• 1–3 years of relevant operations or monitoring experience.

• Familiarity with SCADA or EMS platforms.

• Strong communication and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

• Exposure to battery energy storage systems.

• Experience supporting asset management or performance reporting.

• Technical degree preferred
