Description

The New England College of Optometry (NECO) seeks a creative, strategic, and technically skilled Web Content Specialist to join its Marketing & Communications team. This role combines dynamic digital storytelling with hands-on WordPress web development and content management.


The ideal candidate is both a compelling digital storyteller and a confident WordPress developer who can translate NECO’s mission: Changing the Way People See the World—into engaging content across platforms. This position plays a critical role in elevating NECO’s brand among prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the College.

  

This position is hybrid: 3 days in-office and 2 days remote. The salary for this position is $70,000-$75,000.


Key Responsibilities


WordPress Web Development & Content Management

  • Manage and update NECO’s various WordPress websites to ensure content is current, accurate, and aligned with brand      standards.
  • Build and maintain web pages, landing pages, and campaign microsites to support Admissions, Development & Alumni, and institutional initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate complex academic and clinical information into accessible, engaging web content.
  • Ensure best practices in SEO, accessibility (ADA compliance), usability, and mobile responsiveness and work with outside consultants as directed.
  • Troubleshoot site issues, manage plugins, and coordinate with external developers or IT as needed.
  • Continuously improve user experience to support prospective student recruitment and alumni engagement.

Storytelling & Content Development

  • Identify and develop compelling stories that showcase NECO’s impact in education, patient care, research, and community service.
  • Interview students, faculty, staff, alumni, and patients to craft authentic narratives for digital channels.
  • Partner with Admissions to develop content that supports recruitment and enrollment.
  • Support Advancement by promoting alumni achievements, events, and giving initiatives.
  • Maintain a consistent institutional voice and visual identity across digital platforms.

Collaboration & Project Management

  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications to align digital strategies with institutional goals.
  • Collaborate across departments including Admissions, Development, Academic Affairs, CAPA, and NECO’s two clinics.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced academic environment.
  • Assist with live event coverage and digital promotion of campus activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Web Development, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in web development.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining WordPress websites (themes, plugins, page builders, basic HTML/CSS).
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone for diverse audiences.
  • Experience with analytics tools (Google Analytics).
  • Proficiency with content creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, video editing software).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or nonprofit marketing.
  • Basic photography and videography skills.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and best practices in web design.
