POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sustainability Strategy Manager engages the Practice Greenhealth network, delivering experiences and initiatives that bring partners together for peer connection and learning, and providing health care sustainability expertise in one-on-one interactions.
This role includes both cross-functional project management and execution as well as managing relationships and providing guidance to a portfolio of partners. This role requires a strong sustainability foundation, exceptional organization and facilitation skills, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across a highly collaborative and cross-functional organization.
- Support the design and delivery of high-impact partner experiences, including but not limited to industry collaboratories, peer learning cohorts, webinars, and the Health Care Climate Council — while serving as a central integrator across teams. Lead cross-functional planning to ensure seamless execution, clear accountability, and strong alignment to organizational priorities.
- Proactively identify emerging partner needs, track market trends, and surface insights that inform program design and continuous improvement. Partner closely with program leads to translate strategic goals into actionable plans, strengthen partner engagement, and ensure our offerings remain relevant, differentiated, and value-driven.
- Provide strategic advisory support to member health systems, including engaging senior and executive leaders, facilitating high-touch 1:1 and group conversations, and helping to translate sustainability priorities into clear, actionable next steps.
- Advise provider partners in building a sustainability program that emphasizes governance, change management, and measuring environmental, equity, and financial outcomes.
- Enhance partner support, including improving tools, resources, and educational offerings to position Practice Greenhealth as a key partner in accelerating health care sustainability throughout the sector.
- Maintain content knowledge and skills related to advancing health care sustainability, with emphasis on industry developments and in line with organizational strategic priorities.
- Contribute to our team culture, which emphasizes quality, strategic prioritization, flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Project Management & Partner Experience Execution - 30%
- Serve as a cross-functional project manager supporting the execution of priority initiatives across the Network Experience & Solutions segment.
- Support the implementation of new types of partner experiences, identify opportunities for continuous improvement by tracking deliverables, participant engagement, and lessons learned.
- Enhance leadership and advisory opportunities for Practice Greenhealth partners by supporting the Health Care Climate Council and helping to form new governance and advisory structures.
- Implement new systems to track and coordinate partner requests in order to increase efficiency and support scaling of best practices.
- Support the development and execution of collaborative experiences (e.g., peer-to-peer cohorts, working groups, webinars), resource development, CleanMed conference planning and execution, and sector-wide performance evaluation processes.
- Working closely with other Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth staff, develop and implement strategies and projects that support the advancement of the program objectives and the organization’s strategic plan.
- Cultivate the organization’s values in day-to-day work and interactions.
Network Engagement and Service Delivery - 60%
- Hold approximately 0.6 FTE in a provider partner portfolio, providing outstanding customer service and technical support to meet and exceed partner needs via standardized methods such as one-on-one and group engagement, resource sharing, fostering networking amongst partners, and responding in a timely manner to requests. The percentage of time dedicated to provider partner portfolio management may change as team needs change over time.
- Collaborate with other parts of the Network Experiences & Solutions segment to identify opportunities to advance sustainability outcomes among provider partners, including through policy change, advocacy, and campaigns.
- Provide outstanding customer service and technical support to meet and exceed partner needs via standardized methods such as one-on-one and group engagement, resource sharing, fostering networking amongst partners, and responding in a timely manner to requests.
- Support partners at all stages of the sustainability journey, from beginners to seasoned leaders.
- Coach partners through developing fundamental sustainability governance elements, such as leadership commitment, stakeholder engagement, resourcing, and structure.
- Provide guidance around sustainability benchmarking, including data baselining, goal setting, evaluation, and analysis.
- Encourage Practice Greenhealth partners to submit sustainability data to support performance evaluation and development of strategies for effective assessment, analysis, and recognition.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with staff across Practice Greenhealth, Health Care Without Harm, and Greenhealth Exchange.
- Contribute to and/or lead programmatic Initiative(s) to support the development of the organization's subject matter expertise and advancement of its goals and contribute to and/or lead organization-wide efforts (e.g., Practice Greenhealth Partner experiences, CleanMed planning team(s), DEIB Team, Culture Celebration & Engagement (CCE) Committee, HCWH international network sub-groups).
- Support and participate in the evaluation of the Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Awards, as needed.
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in health care and membership associations and the health care sustainability field.
- All other duties as requested and needed to meet organizational goals.
Administrative - 10%
- Support the segment’s annual budgeting and work planning processes and support the organization’s movement platform segments’ efforts to implement changes to strategies and processes.
- Maintain records of partner activity and contacts in the organizational database (NetFORUM) and Google Drive.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Education: BA or BS. Combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum education.
- Minimum Experience: 3 years in a health care and/or sustainability role. Combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum experience.
- Minimum Field of Expertise: Process improvement, project management, and/or change management.
- Preferred Education: Relevant graduate study and/or certifications. Combined experience/education as a substitute considered.
- Preferred Experience: 4+ years of Experience working in a matrix organization or with multiple teams.
- Experience working in a virtual organization. Familiarity with nonprofit advocacy and/or membership-based organizations.
- Preferred Field of Expertise:
- Experience managing multi-stakeholder projects across teams
- Experience facilitating both collaborative learning experiences and multi-stakeholder strategy sessions
- Healthcare sustainability or general environmental sustainability experience considered an asset
