Description
Purpose
As a Law Clerk, you will support AAIS' Legal team of Attorneys and Regulatory Compliance professionals by performing legal research and analysis, and assisting with reviewing and drafting various legal documents.
Responsibilities
You will support the Legal team in a variety of functions, such as:
- Conduct legal research and analysis of property and casualty insurance statutes and regulatory material.
- Maintain and update the existing legal research database.
- Monitor case law and draft summaries of cases that impact AAIS' insurance programs, services, or products.
- Assist Legal team members in preparing, drafting, or revising language in legal documents and through the creation of standardized language.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to analyze and interpret laws, rules, and regulations and apply them to specific situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Commercial Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance industry knowledge is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Proficient with a variety of information search tools, including web search engines, and subscription- based legal information services such as Westlaw.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
- Self-starter with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively across multiple channels and asynchronously in a remote-first working environment.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in a Juris Doctor degree program with completion of at least the first year, but not having finished the second year.
- Interest in various areas of law, including contracts, regulatory compliance, and insurance.
- Ability to work in a fully remote working environment free from distractions and access to stable and reliable internet services.
Employment Conditions
- The intern will be expected to work full-time at 37.5 hours/week over the summer, with the potential for part-time work continuing during the school year.
- This internship is classified as a temporary, part-time position.
- This internship is compensated as a non-exempt, hourly position.
- This internship position is fully remote.
Salary Description
$22/hr
