Kids’ Food Basket

Location: Grand Rapids | Department: Philanthropy | Status: Non-Exempt


Position Summary

The Event Intern supports the planning and execution of Kids’ Food Basket’s signature events while helping strengthen community partnerships.

This role provides valuable experience in event management, donor engagement, and nonprofit fundraising. The intern will assist with event logistics, stewardship efforts, and communication with sponsors, volunteers, and community partners to ensure every event reflects the mission and values of Kids’ Food Basket.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist with planning and executing events, including setup, breakdown, vendor coordination, and supply management.
  • Support community and third-party partnership events, including prospecting, retention, and stewardship of partners.
  • Serve as a point of contact for attendees, sponsors, volunteers, and partners to ensure a positive event experience.
  • Support event communications and promotion, including invitations, email updates, social media, and outreach efforts.
  • Track event metrics and assist with post-event reporting, offering ideas to improve future events and guest experiences

What You’ll Bring

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program with an interest in nonprofit or community-based work.
  • Volunteer or work experience in the nonprofit sector or supporting events, fundraising, or community engagement initiatives preferred.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including comfort interacting with diverse volunteers, community members, and speaking to groups.
  • Interest in issues related to food insecurity and poverty in West Michigan and a basic understanding of fund development and donor stewardship.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 
  • The ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between work locations as needed.
