Description

Using secured network transfer protocols, the MIS Data Specialist processes files and uploads them into the billing system. Files may be daily, weekly, or otherwise scheduled. Works with the Senior Rep to keep policies, procedures and MIS-related logs up to date. Evaluates data sources and file details to verify data received is loaded under the correct practice and service location per the appropriate billing rules. The MIS Data Specialist is responsible for data integrity relating to the information exchanged.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Load demographic and charge data from outside sources (hospitals and clients) into the billing system.
  • Review and verify data integrity prior to loading data into the billing system.
  • Work series of output reports to identify potential problems or missing information.
  • Research data sources and make any corrections to existing data, as needed.
  • Correspond with client outside sources (hospitals) to obtain missing demographic and charge information, including files expected but not received. 
  • Data mining.
  • Maintain MIS-related logs.
  • Report issues, concerns, trends, missing files (whole or in part) and potential process improvements to Leadership immediately.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Experience

2 years, preferably in a medical insurance billing/follow-up environment. 


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Non-exempt; Full time. Remote work may be approved/declined based on department's operational necessity and performance. 

Requirements
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, Pivot Tables, Macros, Notepad++, data mining, and spreadsheet applications. 
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Detail-oriented, with an understanding of HIPAA/Security compliant billing regulations. 
  • Must possess basic billing software fundamentals

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent
