Graduate Engineer – Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)
Description

Safe Site is seeking a driven, technically sharp Graduate Engineer to support Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and utility investigation projects. This role focuses on preparing high-quality SUE deliverables using client CAD files, survey data, and utility records. This is not a typical entry-level desk role. The selected candidate will work directly with experienced SUE professionals and a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), gaining real-world experience aligned with ASCE 38-22 standards while accelerating their path toward P.E. licensure.


Work Environment: Work On-site 


Responsibilities: 

· Develop and edit SUE CAD deliverables using client base files, survey data, and utility records.

· Analyze and reconcile discrepancies between record data and field investigation results in accordance with ASCE 38-22 Quality Levels.

· Maintain CAD standards, file integrity, layering conventions, and revision control.

· Perform utility records research and coordinate with utility owners, agencies, and One Call systems.

· Interpret ALTA/NSPS surveys to identify boundaries, easements, rights-of-way, and control.

· Prepare submission-ready exhibits for municipalities, agencies, and private clients.

· Assist in preparation of QL-A test hole documentation under supervision of a P.E.

· Coordinate with project managers, CAD staff, and field personnel to ensure scope clarity and deliverable accuracy.

· Participate in internal QA/QC review processes.

Requirements

· Bachelor of Science in Civil, Environmental, Construction, or related engineering discipline.

· Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or F.E. passed with ability to obtain EIT within six (6) months of hire.

· Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar CAD platforms.

· Understanding of drawing scales, layouts, plotting standards, and sheet organization.

· Proficiency with Excel, GIS, and standard office software.

· Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple assignments with deadlines.


Preferred Qualification: 

· Experience with Xrefs, blocks, layers, and sheet sets.

· Exposure to utility locating, potholing/test holes, 811 systems, or utility plan sets.

· Familiarity with engineering and survey drawings.

· Introductory understanding of ASCE 38-22 standards.
