The CNC Mill Co-Op is a temporary student position designed to provide hands-on experience in CNC machining within a manufacturing environment. The co-op will support the Mill department by assisting with machine operation, setup preparation, quality checks, and production documentation while learning fundamental machining principles and shop practices. This role provides practical exposure to CNC operations, blueprint reading, tooling, and manufacturing processes under the guidance of experienced machinists and supervisors
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Assist in operating CNC dry mill machines and router under supervision.
· Support safe startup, shutdown, and basic setup activities for mill machines.
· Load raw material or stock into machines as directed.
· Assist with verifying machine settings by measuring first-run parts, and sample workpieces.
· Observe and learn machining operations such as drilling, grooving, facing, and thread cutting.
· Take measurements and support quality checks to ensure parts meet specifications.
· Identify potential machine or process issues and communicate concerns to supervisors or machinists.
· Assist with replacing or maintaining tooling when instructed.
· Maintain production records and complete basic documentation related to quality and production logs.
· Follow all safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
· Maintain 6S standards (sort, set, shine, standardize, sustain, safety) in assigned work areas.
· Participate in training and learning opportunities to develop machining knowledge and skills.
· Complete additional duties or learning assignments as directed by the supervisor.
Skill and Learning Opportunities:
· Exposure to G-Code and M-Code programming concepts.
· Introduction to blueprint reading and manufacturing drawings.
· Development of measurement and inspection techniques.
· Hands-on experience with CNC machining equipment.
· Basic computer and data entry skills.
· Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
· Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Required Education and Experience:
· Currently enrolled in a technical program, trade school, or college program related to manufacturing, machining, engineering, or a similar field.
Preferred Education and Experience:
· Coursework or training related to machining, CNC programming, manufacturing technology, or engineering.
· Basic understanding of blueprint reading or machining concepts.
Physical Requirements:
· Work environment may include noise, dust, dirt, and mobile equipment.
· Routine lifting up to 35 lbs. and occasional heavier lifting.
· Standing, bending, reaching, walking, and other physical activity for extended periods (8–10 hours).
· Ability to work scheduled shifts as required.
