Carrier Sales Representative

Organization: Operations

Reports to: Operations Manager

Summary of Role:

The Carrier Sales Representative will build relationships with carriers to move freight for our customers. The Carrier Sales Representative will work on securing a carrier at the right price and right time to meet our customer’s needs. This is a fast-paced, high energy role that provides an opportunity to make an impact in logistics all over the nation. 


This role is a non-exempt hourly position and is therefore eligible for overtime pay. All overtime must be approved in advance. We expect that employees in this role follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices consistently and to the best of their ability. 


  

This role starts between $50,000-$60,000 annually with a healthy incentive structure. It also includes Dental, Vision, Life, and Medical Insurance, along with a 401(k) (no match). Candidates with highly relevant experience or additional responsibilities may be considered for compensation above this range.


Accountabilities: 

  • Create and maintain carrier relationships with Carriers
    • Maintain relationships with Owned Carriers
    • Grow existing business (loads, lanes)
    • Business Review Calls (BRCs) with Owned Carriers
  • Source qualified carriers to move freight
    • Find new Carriers
    • Grow book of business
    • Source qualified carriers for Opportunity Loads
    • Perform Discovery calls with potential Carriers
  • Maintain Daily Activities 
    • 80+ Outbound Calls per day
    • 150 Total Calls per day
    • Emails
    • Chats
  • Tracking
    • Communicating on loads 
    • Utilize and Sell Digital Tracking
  • Partnering with Sales Department 
    • Communicating on options, rates/market, and updates on load status
    • Communicate issues and concerns to Sales team on a timely manner
  • Booking Loads
    • Utilizing a structured approach for Same Day Freight
    • Making Prebooks a priority 
    • Closing out loads
    • Maintaining daily load count expectations
  • Prebook
    • Strong focus on prebooking loads
    • Maintaining and Prebooking 75% of all loads 
  • Negotiation
    • Maximizing Margin % on every single load
    • Negotiating off of round numbers 
  • Company Initiatives and All Other Tasks
    • Being present and attentive in all meetings
    • Assisting Carriers resolve any payment issues
    • Assisting Sales Department quote freight
  • Stay Up-To-Date and Understanding the Market to make informed decisions

Requirements

 Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree preferred      
  • 4+ year of experience in working with shippers in the freight/logistics industry
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in operations or sourcing experience 
  • Driven and competitive nature with strong problem solving abilities 
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work independently 
  • Ability to persuade, motivate, influence, and negotiate with others
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
  • Remain positive and flexible in an ever-changing environment with shifting priorities
