CMM Programmer

Projects, Inc. is looking for a detail-oriented and experienced CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) Programmer to join our quality assurance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, operating, and maintaining CMM equipment to ensure accurate measurement and inspection of our products, supporting our commitment to quality and precision.

In this role, the right candidate will create, verify and control CMM programs for use by manufacturing other employees within the organization. They will conduct advanced inspection activities of product, materials, 1st piece inspection, in-process monitoring, and final inspection.  

This person will reports directly to the Quality Manager regarding quality issues and will have daily interaction with Manufacturing to help meet production schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and troubleshoot CMM inspection programs for various CMMs to determine product conformity. 
  • Set up and operate CMM equipment to perform precise measurements according to engineering specifications and drawings.
  • Analyze measurement data to identify deviations and communicate findings to the engineering and production teams.
  • Maintain and calibrate CMM equipment to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve measurement issues and improve inspection processes.
  • Work with Quality Engineers/Manufacturing Engineers to determine inspection criteria and techniques as needed.
  • Generate inspection reports and documentation for quality records and audits.
  • Continuously review and improve CMM programming procedures and techniques to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and safety guidelines.
  • Provide CMM operation instruction as required. Verify and document program accuracy using available industry standards.
  • Use the CMM and a variety of conventional and advanced inspection devices and instruments to verify dimensions to drawing specifications.
  • Mentor other CMM programmers/operators. Develop and implement process improvements relating to the CMM inspection process. Ensure that production schedules and customer requirements are met.
  • Visually and dimensionally, final inspect machined components, and castings. Knowledge of calibrated tooling and equipment as well as extensive CMM programming experience is critical. Extensive knowledge of aerospace requirements with regards to inspection criteria is also essential.
  • Identify defects in surface, dimensional, visual and non-conformities (material, documentation and workmanship) to blueprints and Projects quality standards. Report non-conformance of materials or unusual conditions to Quality Manager and/or Manufacturing lead immediately.
  • Perform all responsibilities within productivity and quality expectations. Follow work procedures. Provide support to achieve short-term and long-term department / company goals.
  • Maintain records, data and logs as necessary. Create inspection forms such as Inspection Methods Sheets, First Article Inspection Data and other related forms.
  • Prepare products and related paperwork for presentation to customer or source inspection as well as interact with customers when required.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment. Follow safety and environmental procedures/programs and regulations. Report safety incidents to manager.
  • Make and document recommendations for improvements to work processes and procedures. Contribute to 5S programs in work area.

Qualifications:

The appropriate candidate will have the following qualifications to successfully perform the job:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience operating CMM equipment or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a CMM Programmer 
  • Proficiency in CMM programming with PC-DMIS
  • Strong mathematics knowledge and good understanding of Statistical Process Control.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with all team members.
  • Excellent computer skills and organizational skills required.

Competencies/Skills:

  • Strong practical understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Able to read and interpret complex blueprints
  • Create MRB submittal documents as needed
  • Experience with Aerospace parts and assemblies
  • Understanding of Quality Procedures and Documentation in an ISO 9001/AS 9100 regulated environment
  • Possess a high level of knowledge to determine the proper method of inspection to be used for each part that is being processed and/or inspected.
  • Ability to verify conformance of machined features using measuring instruments such as a micrometer, caliper, swing gage, etc.

Physical Demands:

  • Work requires bending, lifting up to fifty (50) pounds, pulling, pushing, sitting, reaching, and standing for eight plus (8+) hours per day.
