Description
The Database Engineer will support the ESCAPE program and broader enterprise data initiatives by designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performance database systems. This role ensures data integrity, supports analytics and reporting, and aligns with DoD and ESCAPE-specific requirements for operational data store (ODS), legacy system migration, and cloud-based architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain relational SQL databases (e.g., SQL Server)
- Implement and manage data pipelines and integration workflows using tools like Azure Data Factory and Data Bricks
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and storage management.
- Support data migration from legacy USAF systems into a cloud-based ODS
- Develop and enforce database standards, procedures, and best practices in compliance with DoD cybersecurity and data governance policies
- Collaborate with software engineers, data analysts, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless data access and integration.
- Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Automate routine database tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Powershell).
- Document database processes and provide training to technical staff as needed.
- Provide operational support, reviews, and health checks.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in database engineering or administration.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., Teradata, MySQL, SQL Server).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
- Strong understanding of data modeling, normalization, and schema design.
- Knowledge of DoD data security and compliance standards is a plus.
- Experience supporting Air Force or DoD programs
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools like Jira.
- Certifications in database technologies or cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS).
- DoD 8140 Qualifications. Formerly information security certificates (e.g., CSSLP, SEC+, etc.)
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Clearance
• Secret (preferred)
Salary Description
Starting salary of $115,000.00 annually.
