Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (CTPA)
Description

Posterity Group, LLC is seeking a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (CTPA) with the San Francisco VAHCS.  The successful CT Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) will provide comprehensive care for patients undergoing heart and chest surgeries, acting as a critical extension of the surgeon in the operating room (OR), intensive care unit (ICU), and on the floor. Key duties include endoscopic/open vein harvesting, first assisting in complex surgeries (CABG, valve replacement), managing pre- and post-operative patients, and performing invasive procedures like chest tube insertions:  

  • The CTPAs are responsible for insertion, operation and removal of intra-aortic balloon pump  
  • Critical services include endoscopic radial and saphenous vein harvesting (must have documented experience of >100 endoscopic procedures in each location)
  • Ultrasound guided arterial and venous access for central line placement, chest tube and pigtail insertion and removal
  • Insertion and removal of Swan-Ganz catheter, removal of pacing wires, cardioversion
  • Performance of first and second assistant responsibilities in cardiothoracic surgery in the operating room
  • Bedside assistant for robotic procedures.  
  • A CTPA who can work in the operating room two days per week, 6 hours per day located at the SFVAHCS. 
  • VA Business Hours: VA business hours/hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  
  • Off-hours Coverage: There is no off-hours coverage required.  
Requirements

 

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Valid license (PA-C) 
  • Master's degree Physician's Assistant Studies
  • Previous surgical experience as a First Assistant.
  • Cardiothoracic experience with EVH background highly recommended.
  • Must possess strong physician/surgeon relationship skills and team mentality.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with team members, hospital staff and physicians.
Salary Description
$195,000 - $245,000
