POSITION SUMMARY
The Solar Design Engineer is responsible for the electrical and mechanical design of commercial and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role supports projects from early-stage site evaluation through issued-for-construction (IFC) design, ensuring systems are optimized for performance, constructability, safety, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate brings strong technical fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, construction, and project management teams.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*:
- Solar System Design & Engineering
- Develop electrical and mechanical designs for commercial and utility-scale solar PV systems.
- Produce and review wiring diagrams, one-lines, grounding plans, and electrical schematics.
- Design mounting layouts and coordinate mechanical integration of racking and structural components.
- Perform system sizing, energy modeling, and performance analysis.
- Software & Technical Tools
- Utilize AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other CAD tools to produce accurate design drawings.
- Apply MATLAB or similar analytical tools for system modeling and performance evaluation.
- Use GIS tools for site assessment, layout optimization, and environmental considerations.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with construction, project management, procurement, and permitting teams to ensure constructible designs.
- Support construction teams with design clarifications and field issue resolution.
- Coordinate with utilities, AHJs, and third-party engineers as required.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes (NEC), utility requirements, and industry standards.
- Incorporate best practices related to safety, constructability, and long-term system reliability.
- Support permitting and interconnection documentation.

Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles applicable to solar PV systems.
- Working knowledge of mechanical design related to mounting structures and system integration.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; experience with MATLAB preferred.
- Familiarity with GIS tools and site analysis methods.
- Understanding of construction practices related to solar installations.
- Knowledge of systems engineering approaches to optimize performance and reliability.
- Experience with commercial or utility-scale solar projects preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple design tasks simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / JOB CONDITIONS:
- Remote work environment.
- Travel to project sites may be required based on Company needs.
- Occasional travel to Enfield, Connecticut or other project locations.
