Summary of Position:
The DTC Fulfillment and Retail Coordinator supports Hog Island Oyster Company’s Direct-to-Consumer business by coordinating retail pick-up window operations and nationwide order fulfillment from the Petaluma facility.
This role moves between a customer-facing retail environment and a fast-paced warehouse fulfillment operation, ensuring products are packed, presented, and shipped according to Hog Island’s quality and food safety standards.
Success in this role requires strong organization, attention to detail, inventory management, and the ability to work efficiently in a seafood handling and warehouse environment.

Compensation:
Estimated Pay Range (Petaluma Market): $23.00 – $24.00 per hour plus tips
Actual pay will be determined based on experience, skills, and internal equity.

Retail Window Operations
- Open and prepare the Petaluma Pick-Up Window for daily operations
- Maintain retail displays and required inventory levels
- Process customer transactions using the Toast POS system
- Manage walk-up sales and organize customer pre-orders for pick-up
- Provide knowledgeable and professional customer service
- Monitor product inventory and communicate low-stock needs to management
Order Fulfillment & Warehouse Operations
- Pack Direct-to-Consumer and wholesale orders for nationwide shipping
- Assemble insulated shipping boxes and cold-chain packaging
- Maintain order accuracy and packing standards during high-volume fulfillment
- Move inventory and materials using pallet jacks or forklifts (as trained)
- Coordinate order preparation with warehouse and commissary teams
Inventory & Product Handling
- Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) product rotation procedures
- Maintain organized storage areas, coolers, and freezers
- Monitor daily product levels including oysters, commissary items, and retail products
- Assist with receiving, staging, and organizing incoming products
Compliance & Sanitation
- Follow HACCP food safety and seafood handling procedures
- Maintain lot tracking and product traceability records
- Clean and sanitize packing equipment and work areas regularly
- Maintain sanitation standards in retail, warehouse, and employee areas
Closing & Administrative Tasks
- Complete daily inventory counts and production logs
- Reconcile POS transactions and closing reports
- Secure retail and warehouse areas at end of shift
- Prepare workstations and packing materials for the next business day
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition, the individual must be punctual, have a good attendance record, and have reliable means of transportation to work.
Required
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
- Valid California Driver’s License
- Experience working in retail, food service, warehouse, or fulfillment environments
Preferred
- Experience with Toast POS, Shopify, or similar systems
- Experience working with seafood or perishable food products
- Familiarity with warehouse fulfillment or e-commerce shipping operations

This position requires working in a warehouse and seafood handling environment that may include cold, wet, and fast-paced conditions.
Employees must be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time (up to 8–10 hours)
- Bend, reach, stoop, and kneel throughout the workday
- Perform repetitive packing and product handling tasks
- Work in refrigerated environments and near ice and seafood products
- Safely operate pallet jacks, forklifts, and warehouse equipment (as trained)
- Work on wet or uneven surfaces typical of seafood handling areas
- Tolerate exposure to seafood products, shellfish, seafood odors, and related processing environments
Work Environment
This position operates in a combined warehouse, seafood processing, and retail environment. The work environment may include the following conditions:
- Refrigerated workspaces and cold storage areas
- Exposure to seafood, shellfish, ice, and water during daily operations
- Wet floors and surfaces typical of seafood handling and food production environments
- Noise from warehouse equipment, refrigeration units, and packing operations
- Operation of pallet jacks, forklifts, and other warehouse equipment
- Frequent movement between retail, warehouse, packing, and storage areas
- Exposure to varying temperatures including cold storage and outdoor loading areas
- Fast-paced work environment during peak shipping and retail periods
Employees may also interact with customers at the retail pick-up window while performing fulfillment and warehouse duties.
