Description

Assists in the supervision of day-to-day activities of department workers, overseeing processes and equipment and ensuring safety and housekeeping are maintained in the work area while also engaging in the same job functions as those supervised.

  • Contribute to the overall success of the Company by supporting Department Supervisor in achieving company goals, department best practices and promoting a continuous improvement culture
  • Communicate with Supervisor (and Production group, when appropriate) to receive instructions and coordinate job activity for assigned team members
  • Work with Supervisor to determine appropriate methods, practices and processes for meeting production schedules by using Company software platform(s) and knowledge of department capabilities regarding workers and equipment
  • Communicate regularly with Supervisor on status of jobs and promptly alert of any obstacles due to lack of material, inefficient processes, shifting priorities, malfunctioning equipment, insufficient personnel, quality concerns or similar issues
  • Assist Supervisor in verifying part conformance to quality specifications by regularly checking part quality; notifying Supervisor if any non-conformance exists, and using appropriate actions to correct
  • Report issues with equipment to Supervisor for repair or replacement
  • Monitor the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) of Department personnel; ensuring consistent and proper usage
  • Regularly observe the work of Department personnel and their adherence to Department best practices; sharing feedback with the Department Supervisor regarding worker’s performance strengths and / or deficiencies
  • Assist in training new staff on Department best practices, job responsibilities, procedures, work instructions and specifications; including production rates and quality requirements, as requested by Supervisor
  • Support Supervisor regarding the upkeep and cleanliness of the Department work area(s) and coordinating the preventative maintenance schedule for equipment by Department workers or with the Maintenance group
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear safety equipment or apparel as required
  • Perform all job functions to meet acceptable quality and performance standards
  • Ensure on a daily basis that work area is clean and orderly, including workstation
  • Use office equipment including but not limited to: copier, scanner, computer, printers, and telephone/paging system

When Acting as a Lead:

  1. Ensure accuracy of part counts and proper labeling prior to parts moving to next operation
  2. Review and verify accuracy of team job data entered into MES stations 

In the absence of or as assigned by Supervisor, may be responsible to:

  1. Assign daily activities of Department workers to meet production schedule
  2. Attend and participate in scheduled Production meeting(s) 
  3. Utilize company ERP to review and approve department worker’s Time and Expense (T&E) activities
  4. Resolve employee work related concerns directly, escalating to Human Resources when appropriate
Requirements

· Minimum 5 years of manufacturing work experience in setting up and operating laser cutting and/or turret punching

· Good leadership, organizational and communication skills

· Basic computer literacy with the ability to perform tasks within company’s ERP system (Epicor experience a plus)

· Ability to read and understand print details


Preferred Qualifications:

· Prior team leadership experience

· Bilingual (English/Spanish)


Physical Requirements: 

· Exert 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently

· Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk about the facility to access and move materials and equipment

· Ability to communicate with others; accommodation as required to listen to equipment and monitor paging system

· Accommodation as required for reading documents, prints, computer screens, and quality instruments


WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Typical metal manufacturing environment with exposure to powder coat paint facility. Active work that primarily involves walking, standing, bending and lifting.
