POSITION SUMMARY:

Are you a people and relationships person? Do you like interacting with businesses and organizations both small and large? Visit Milwaukee is seeking an intern to assist our busy partnership department with relationship building and special events management.


Visit Milwaukee’s partnership department discovers, builds, and tends relationships with the Southeastern Wisconsin business community to connect them to the economic impacts of tourism. Visit Milwaukee’s partnership program provides tools to partner hospitality businesses to market themselves to Milwaukee visitors and convention attendees.


Visit Milwaukee offers undergraduate and graduate students internship opportunities to gain firsthand experience in the destination marketing industry. The intern will be assigned special projects and duties as determined by the supervisor to support and assist the Visit Milwaukee partnership department.

Requirements


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This intern position will assist the partnership team in identifying business prospects, servicing our partner base of 1,000+ partners, assisting with special events and other duties and projects as determined by the goals of the internship.


Intern responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the development and management of a prospecting database of hospitality businesses in the seven county greater Milwaukee region.
  • Assist with management of our current partner base of over 1,000 businesses.
  • Assist with the planning, registration, and execution of special events and programs including partner outreach and communication.
  • Special projects and opportunities as assigned.


Things you’ll learn in this internship include but are not limited to:

  • Exposure to a customer relationship management tool (CRM).
  • How to network and communicate with local business and industry leaders.
  • How to plan events that assist with partner and business development.
  • How to collaborate within teams.
  • Milwaukee’s growing tourism industry.

 QUALIFICATIONS: 


Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution with a major in business, communications, hospitality/event planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior customer service experience and hospitality industry experience preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Experience in Microsoft Suite, databases and aptitude to learn new programs/software.
  • Strong knowledge of the greater Milwaukee area including attractions, arts and cultural institutions, events, restaurants, etc.
  • Strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. Ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically, racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication, customer service skills, and the ability to convey information in a positive manner.
  • Keen attention to detail, the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to perform desk-based work, including operating a computer and viewing a screen for extended periods.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with partners and colleagues by phone, video conference, and in person.
  • Ability to move, lift, and carry materials for partner meetings or events, typically up to 50 pounds (with or without assistance).
  • Ability to stand and walk for moderate periods during events, site visits, or partner engagements.
  • Ability to travel locally by personal automobile.

Hours & Pay: 

  • This is a paid internship and is eligible for academic credit as defined by the academic institution.
  • Work schedules will be determined by the supervisor and the intern, and will be during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
