OVERVIEW

Cadrex is searching for a CNC Programming Intern who supports the engineering and manufacturing teams in developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs for production. This role provides hands-on experience with CNC machining processes, CAM software, and shop floor operations. The intern will assist in improving machining efficiency, ensuring program accuracy, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This position is ideal for students pursuing careers in manufacturing engineering, machining, or related technical fields who are seeking practical, real-world experience in a fast-paced production environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in creating and editing CNC programs using CAM software for milling, turning, or multi-axis machining centers
  • Support program validation through simulation, test runs, and shop floor prove-outs
  • Review technical drawings, models, and specifications to ensure program accuracy and completeness
  • Make minor program adjustments to improve cycle time, tool paths, and machining efficiency
  • Work closely with machinists, setup technicians, and engineers to troubleshoot machining issues
  • Observe and support machine setups, tool changes, and first-piece inspections
  • Assist in documenting standard work instructions, setup sheets, and tooling requirements
  • Participate in daily production meetings or shift handoffs as applicable
  • Support initiatives focused on reducing cycle time, scrap, and tool wear
  • Collect and analyze basic production data to identify improvement opportunities
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining program libraries and revision control systems
  • Contribute to 5S and lean manufacturing activities within the machining area
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures while working in the manufacturing environment
  • Support adherence to quality standards by verifying program outputs and part conformance
  • Assist in root cause investigations related to machining defects or inconsistencies
Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic understanding of CNC machining principles (milling, turning, tooling, feeds and speeds)
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM, or similar) preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a hands-on environment
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
