We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Mechanical Engineer II to join our team and provide essential engineering and technical support to the Electro-Optic Technology Division. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to advanced weapon and targeting sensor systems, supporting critical projects such as the MK38 Mod 4, MK20/MK46, and MK38 Toplite. The successful candidate will be part of the Weapon and Targeting Sensor Systems Branch (Code LXNT), collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful development and integration of cutting-edge technology.
Position Responsibilities
- Perform trade studies, engineering/technical analysis and other technical evaluations to assist MK38 Mod 4, MK20/MK46 and MK38 Toplite teams in requirements allocation.
- Assist in the development and finalization of requirements, behavior, use cases, architecture and other relevant technical documents related to the MK38 Mod 4, MK20/MK46 and MK38 Toplite programs
- Review technical documents and recommend improvements to foster standardization of document types, document format and data file naming.
- Write procedures, work instructions and design practices criteria to standardize Electro-Optic Technology work products.
- Investigate issues pertaining to the MK38 Mod 4, MK20/MK46 and MK38 Toplite system requirements and associated engineering changes.
- Support engineering testing and investigations related to obsolescence management or considerations for improved system design
- Evaluate technical specifications and applicable performance requirements.
- Recommend and prepare inputs for test plans, procedures, etc. and provide other recommendations as needed for MK38 Mod 4, MK20/MK46 and MK38 Toplite hardware test events (both virtual and live tests).
- Perform trade studies for future Fleet EO/IR capabilities to develop future MK38 Mod 4, MK20/MK46 and MK38 Toplite requirements and use cases. Provide recommendations to Engineering teams for consideration.
- Perform pre- and post-test activities, including laboratory engineering test events set up, system installation and preparation, and other activities required for meeting test configuration.
- Support external test events for MK38 Mod 4, MK20/MK46 and MK38 Toplite projects.
- Be LXN Document Preparer Certified.
- Obtain and maintain certification in Hazard Analysis via NSWC Crane offered training.
- Obtain and maintain certification in Non-Ordnance SOP Writing via NSWC Crane offered training.
- Assess system functionality for testing and evaluating systems coming to NSWC Crane.
- Assess electrical or wiring schematics for MK38 Mod 4, MK20/MK46 and MK38 Toplite subsystems.
- Capable of lifting 65 lbs. for two-man lift of 130 lbs.
- Bachelor's degree or 5 years' experience.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
