Air Traffic Control Internship - Volanno Transportation Academy
Volanno, a leader in transportation technology and innovation, proudly announces the return of the Volanno Transportation Academy (VTA) for its second year— a 10-week, full-time, paid internship program designed to give students hands-on experience addressing the real-world challenges facing the transportation industry.
Through the Volanno Transportation Academy, participants will gain direct exposure to aviation, rail, and local transit operations through curated site visits, mentorship by industry experts, and project-based learning. Interns will choose one of four tracks — Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Technology, or Air Traffic Control.
Location: Washington, DC Metro Area (Site Visits Required)
Duration: 10 Weeks (Starting June 1, 2026)
Compensation: $20.00 per hour, Full-Time
About the Track:
The Air Traffic Control Track is for students who want to pursue a career related to air traffic and be exposed to projects and technology that support the National Airspace System.
What You'll Do:
- Participate in site visits to observe the technology landscape in aviation, rail, and local transit.
- Explore how AI, cloud computing, and analytics can enhance operations, safety, and customer experience in transportation.
- Work with Volanno’s development team to observe the Agile process used in product development.
- Meet with transportation leaders and industry experts.
- Complete weekly video logs to document your journey.
- Complete a capstone project focused on building or designing a technology solution for a transportation need and present it to Volanno leadership at the end of the program.
- Attend the graduation ceremony.
Who Should Apply:
- Currently enrolled in College or University that participates in the Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) program for Air Traffic Control.
- Those with experience or strong interest in improving the training process for ATC students.
- Innovators who are passionate about using technology to solve real-world problems.
Qualifications:
- Be enrolled in a CTI program
- Analytical mindset and enthusiasm for AI, data analytics, or cloud platforms
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with technical teams
- Coursework or experience in computer science, data science, engineering, or related fields preferred
