Early Childhood Aide - Part Time
Description


St. Peter Catholic Church, in the Brookside neighborhood of Kansas City, is seeking an Early Childhood Aide. Teacher Aide supports lead teachers by providing instructional assistance, managing classroom routines, and supervising students to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment. Key duties include working with small groups, grading, preparing materials, and assisting with student hygiene or behavioral management. The ideal applicant is fulfilled by working with children and making a difference as part of a team. This position is part time and reports to the principal.


Essential Duties/Key Responsibilities

  • Implement activities planned by the classroom teacher.
  • Bridge communication between the classroom teacher and the student’s parents.
  • Assisting teachers with lesson implementation, working with students one-on-one or in small groups to reinforce learning, and aiding with classroom activities.
  • Work with students individually, following him/her through the daily schedule.
  • Provide for student's social and emotional needs through respite activities and “brain breaks.”
  • Maintain records of all activities planned and completed.
  • Preparing, copying, and organizing instructional materials, as well as grading tests and recording attendance.
  • Supervising students during non-instructional times, including lunch, recess, assemblies, and field trips.
  • Supporting student needs, which may include assisting with clothing, hygiene, and in special education settings, implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) and personal care.
  • Attend and participate in professional learning activities as assigned.
  • Complete other assigned tasks.
  • Ensuring a safe classroom environment by following established procedures and maintaining student confidentiality.
Requirements


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Some post-secondary education preferred
  • Previous classroom or childcare experience is preferred

  • Ability to use a variety of classroom technology
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, and potentially life up to 25 pounds
