Summary

Acts as the front line of customer support, responsible for keeping our environmental test chambers running smoothly. The Field Service Technician I role requires a confident individual capable of accurately and efficiently troubleshooting and repairing electrical and refrigeration systems at customer sites. Success in the roles demands strong critical thinking skills and the ability to make sound, timely decisions under pressure.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

· Performs calibration service to all ENA and ESPEC Corp manufactured equipment while adhering to ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Management System and maintaining accuracy of customer data. 

· Conducts on-site training for customers on the operation, start-up, and maintenance of newly installed equipment.

· Repairs and adjusts refrigeration systems, electrical, and control systems.

· Configures and calibrates controllers and recorders, demonstrating knowledge in their operation and application.

· Evacuates refrigeration systems as needed.

· Charges/recharges refrigeration systems and fills out refrigerant usage tickets.

· Reads and interprets refrigeration and electrical prints/drawings.

· Coordinates and supervises on-site activities when contractors are used to help on large installations.

· Records and approves contractor hours on large installations.

· Completes expense reports for all expenditures.

· Submits detailed service reports after each job, including travel/labor hours, work performed, job status, and customer signature.

· Implements engineering-approved system changes.

· Returns parts from the field.

· Presents him/herself professionally and acts in a courteous and helpful manner.

· Prepares for the next assignment by researching what must be done to complete the job.

· Reads manuals on unfamiliar equipment to gain a better understanding.

· Assists production as needed upon request.

· Cleans work area, cleans and maintains service van, machines, tools, and equipment. 

· Arrives at the pre-determined job site on the date and time provided by the Service Manager. 

· Completes ongoing safety training.

· Operates efficiently and effectively with minimal direct supervision.

· Regular, physical attendance is required.

· Regional, Extended Domestic, and International travel required.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

· Minimum 2 years of college or trade school is  required. 



Skills and Experience

·  Minimum of 5 years  of experience in the refrigeration industry preferred. 

· Previous experience brazing/soldering/welding ferrous and non-ferrous materials required.

· Refrigerant charging and recovery experience required. 

· Strong mechanical aptitude required. 

· Basic computer and phone skills required including the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Email). 

· Electrical knowledge in high, low, and control voltage desired. 

· Previous Customer Service experience desired.

· Preferred: Commercial electrical knowledge including:

o Low Voltage DC 

o Low Voltage AC

o High Voltage 3 phase power

o Electrical schematics reading and troubleshooting

· Preferred: Commercial refrigeration knowledge including:

o Basic refrigeration knowledge

o Proper recovery, evacuation, and charging techniques



Competencies 

· Refrigeration Systems: Knowledge of refrigeration cycles, including charging, evacuation, recovery, and troubleshooting; experience with various refrigerant types and their handling; ability to diagnose and repair complex refrigeration systems.

· Electrical Systems: Basic knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring diagrams, and control systems; ability to troubleshoot electrical faults and repair components; experience with both AC and DC electrical systems.

· Tool Proficiency: Competent in using a variety of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialized tools related to the equipment. 

· Mechanical Systems: Knowledge of pumps, valves, compressors, fans, and other mechanical components; ability to diagnose and repair mechanical failures.

· Blueprint Reading and Schematics: Ability to interpret complex schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.

· Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve technical issues efficiently. 

· Equipment Maintenance: Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures and the ability to perform routine maintenance tasks.

· Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex situations, identify key issues, and develop effective solutions.

· Decision Making: Ability to make sound, timely decisions under pressure, often with limited information.

· Adaptability: Ability to adjust to changing circumstances and handle unexpected challenges.
