Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Chicagoland’s diverse immigrant and refugee communities. Established in 1981, CMAA is a cornerstone of the “Asia on Argyle” corridor of the Uptown Neighborhood of Chicago with a satellite office in Elgin, IL, providing programs to serve our community across generations. We offer after-school, summer camp, and mentoring programs for young people. For adults, we provide case management and social services, education including English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, job preparation and placement services, and immigration and citizenship case assistance. We connect older adults to in-home care support and community enrichment through our Golden Age Club. Finally, we support entrepreneurs and small businesses as the only AAPI-led Small Business Development Center in Illinois.

Requirements


The Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is looking for a highly flexible and adaptable individual to fill the role of HR Manager. The HR Manager will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of CMAA's business by facilitating the delivery of services for different program departments. They will be closely involved in CMAA's strategic planning, reviewing internal processes, updating and creating new policies, and working closely with personnel from various program departments.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities


The successful candidate will handle a wide variety of Human Resources matters for the organization, oversee the HR Team in assigning deadlines, follow up and answer questions from HR staff, and delegate.HR projects and tasks, including, but not limited to:

  • Facilitating recruitment efforts between hiring managers and the HR team
  • Onboarding new hires and offboarding exiting employees
  • Monitoring I-9 forms, background checks, and employment verifications
  • Ensuring employee files are up to date
  • Overseeing the agency’s overall employee training
  • Helping review employee timesheets through the HRIS system, Paylocity
  • Drafting and maintaining policies as needed or according to new regulations that affect the organization
  • Managing benefit portals (health insurance, life insurance, long-term disability) by enrolling employees, deleting any departed employees, and providing reports when necessary
  • Providing demographic and internal information needed for grant applications and audits
  • Updating employee job descriptions for the agency and drafting new ones when necessary
  • Answering employee questions and concerns
  • Working with managers in addressing personnel issues
  • Researching and proposing initiatives that will improve CMAA's internal operations and HR processes
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of three years of human resource management experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with HRIS (specifically Paylocity) is preferred
  • Experience working with payroll process preferred

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • This is a largely sedentary role, however, some filing is required. This could require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

The approximate salary range for this position is $60,000- $70,000 annually. Please note that the indicated base salary is provided in good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, etc.
