Position Summary
Brooks Construction is seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic & CDL Driver to join our team in Enfield, CT. In this dual-role position, you will perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on our diesel trucks and heavy construction equipment while also safely operating commercial vehicles to support our job sites across Connecticut and nearby areas. This is a hands-on role ideal for a motivated mechanic who holds a valid CDL and enjoys keeping equipment running efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanic Duties:
- Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on diesel engines, dump trucks, heavy construction equipment (loaders, excavators, pavers, rollers, etc.), and related systems including hydraulics, electrical, transmissions, brakes, and powertrains.
- Conduct routine services such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and detailed inspections.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Repair or replace faulty components and perform welding/fabrication work as needed.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts inventory logs.
- Ensure all equipment meets DOT and safety compliance standards.
CDL Driver Duties:
- Safely operate Class A or B commercial vehicles to transport construction materials, equipment, and personnel to and from job sites in Connecticut and surrounding states.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain clean, road-ready vehicles.
- Properly secure loads and follow all DOT hours-of-service regulations.
- Adhere to company safety policies and always traffic laws.
General Duties:
- Work collaboratively with the shop and field operations teams.
- Participate in on-call rotation for emergency repairs when required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in our Enfield shop.
- Follow all OSHA, DOT, and company safety protocols.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A or B with air brake endorsement (required).
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably working on heavy trucks and construction equipment.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy machinery repair.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Valid DOT medical card (or ability to obtain one).
- Ability to lift to 75 lbs, work in all weather conditions, and stand for extended periods.
- Reliable, safety-minded, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school training or certifications in diesel mechanics preferred.
- Clean driving record and ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Diesel Technician Certification or equivalent.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Familiarity with construction equipment commonly used in asphalt paving and site development.
- Prior experience in the construction industry.
