Position Summary

The Community Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in serving as the face of Girl Scouts in the community – building authentic relationships and sparking meaningful experiences to diverse communities through recruitment events and programs. Under the direction of the Recruitment Manager, this role provides event support, coordination and set up, inspires participation, and ensures the movement grows in both reach and impact. This flexible schedule provides work-life balance while creating the opportunity for girls to create lasting memories as they develop courage, confidence and character.


What You’ll Do

  • Attend local community events and activities, to help build awareness of Girl Scouts and develop strong connections with families and volunteers.
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for prospective volunteers and families, providing information and support to foster positive first impressions to encourage engagement.
  • Participate in assigned community outreach activities such as table events, parades, school open houses to generate leads and create membership growth across the council’s different service areas.
  • Organize and facilitate recruitment and program activities in the community to encourage participation in Girl Scout programming.
  • Collect and submit accurate lead forms, attendance counts, and event feedback to support timely follow-ups and continuous improvement. Complete required follow-ups and reporting after events.
  • Drive and safely operate a box truck (Girl Scout mobile unit) including transport, set up, teardown and proper care of the box truck and other event equipment.
  • Represent the organization professionally and model behavior consistent with the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting.
  • Be adaptable to take on additional duties as assigned to meet the evolving needs of the recruitment team.
  • Communicate proactively regarding availability, scheduling preferences or conflicts as well as respond promptly to event invitations.
Requirements

Who You Are and Keys to Success

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent or a minimum of one year’s experience in membership recruitment, sales or related field. Associates degree preferred.
  • Possess basic computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Customer-service orientated the ability to communicate in a friendly and professional manner across a wide range of cultures, ages, abilities, genders, ethnicities, etc.
  • Comfortable speaking in a public setting; experience implementing events and activities for youth in diverse communities.
  • Detailed-oriented, manages time effectively, organized with ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to drive a small box truck or be trained upon hire.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision, show initiative, demonstrate reliability, is flexible and can shift priorities in response to changing needs.
  • Can work a flexible schedule, primarily evenings and weekend hours, and be able to participate in a minimum of two assigned community events per month based on the event calendar.
  • Willingness to subscribe to Girl Scout philosophy program and join as a Girl Scout member, which includes paying a membership fee either annually or as a Lifetime Member.
  • Travel within the region and access to dependable transportation is required. A valid driver’s license and use of your own vehicle are preferred. If so, you must comply with the council’s automobile insurance policy limits and have a driving record that meets the requirements of the council’s business auto insurance carrier. If you are unable to drive, a transportation plan must be submitted and approved prior to an official offer being made.
  • The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to stand for long periods and operate office equipment manually. The employee must be able to routinely lift 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
