Position Description:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Programming, the Program Specialist is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and supporting recreation and educational programming for Disability & Senior Services. The Specialist monitors community needs through conversation, outreach, and surveys, and develops engaging programs in response. This role represents the Township at networking events and conducts outreach presentations to share information on services and opportunities. The Specialist collaborates with sponsors, vendors, and independent contractors to support program delivery and enhance the impact of Disability & Senior Services.


Hours:

This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, typically 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Hours may fluctuate based on departmental needs. Evening, early morning, and weekend hours may be required for special events or outreach.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinate special events, overnight trips, recreational programs, and educational workshops for Township residents with disabilities and adults 55+.
  • Develop and plan an annual educational and recreational program schedule tailored for clients with disabilities, ensuring accessibility and inclusion.
  • Submit media requests and collaborate with the Community Relations Department on publicity and registration needs.
  • Negotiate contracts and fee structures with service providers and vendors; pursue cost-reducing measures for programs.
  • Manage programming invoices, submitting them to the Director for approval, ensuring timely payment.
  • Oversee registration and payments for programs; provide collected funds to the Assistant Director and assist with deposit paperwork.
  • Escort off-site programming and overnight trips or coordinate alternative coverage when necessary.
  • Ensure programs and events are accurately entered into Mon Ami and the Township Events Calendar following standard operating procedures.
  • Identify issues affecting program development and make recommendations to the Assistant Director and Director of Disability & Senior Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Programming or Director of Disability & Senior Services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Event Coordination, or related field preferred; equivalent education and experience considered.
  • Experience in program planning and working with individuals with disabilities and seniors preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook and Teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, vendors, elected officials, and community partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
  • Knowledge of accessible program design and inclusive event coordination is desirable.


Physical Demands:

  • This position may require sitting or remaining stationery for extended periods and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Use of standard office equipment and keyboards is required.
  • Reaching, grasping, and handling program materials in an office environment.
  • Engagement with files and technology at various heights and locations, with accommodation as needed for accessibility.
  • Regular communication and interaction with staff, clients, and community members.

Working Conditions:

  • This role is primarily performed indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure during special events or outreach.
  • Low to moderate noise levels may occur during programming activities and events.
  • Some clients may exhibit behavioral concerns such as agitation or raised voices.
  • Off-site training and community-based activities may be required and could involve additional conditions not listed here.
  • Regular interaction with diverse community groups, vendors, and sponsors.

Please note: The starting salary is typically set between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on experience, with higher placement reserved for candidates bringing significant directly related experience. 

Salary Description
$49,500 - $60,000, experience based
