Organization Overview:

Our Summer Camp Program was founded in 1924 and continues to serve youth ages 5-18. Position Overview:

This position is responsible for planning menus, ordering food according to set budget, managing kitchen inventory and supply requests, scheduling and supervising the kitchen staff and volunteers, and working with camp leadership to implement policies for staff and campers. This position is also responsible for ensuring that the camper’s dietary needs and restrictions are safely met in coordination with the Program Director and Assistant Director of Health & Wellness and Special Diets Cook.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. This role will come in contact with campers, families, visitors, vendors and employees. Each of these persons may have visible and invisible qualities that makes that person unique. This includes race, gender, age, sexuality, ability, religion, national origin, gender identity, and other identities. 2. Oversee the day-to-day operations of Camp Namanu kitchen and food services areas including but not limited to supervision and scheduling of kitchen staff, menu implementation, dietary restriction management, regular cleaning, and inventory management. Experience managing food service for 250+ is preferred. 

3. Develop and implement staff training for food service employees and volunteers and ensure all health and safety practices are followed by staff and campers in kitchen and dining spaces. 


Job Duties:

· Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers, volunteers, families, and contractors; including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.

· Develop, record, and maintain standardized recipes and procedures

· Maintain adequate inventory, and ensure the rotation and timely use of kitchen supplies

· Supervise and participate in the preparation of nutritious meals for youth, staff, and guests throughout summer programming and rental seasons

· Provide quality options for those with special dietary needs

· Maintain the organization and cleanliness of kitchen and food service areas

  • Work with Property Director and/or Rental Manager to maintain food service equipment and supplies

· Monitor food preparation methods, portion sizes, and the overall presentation of food 

· Comply with health and food safety standards and regulations 

· Inform and train camp staff about their responsibilities when in dining spaces including safety procedures, how to prep their campers, and any protocols to follow. 

· Maintain staff performance record including any required evaluations, performance issue documentation, and other records as needed. 

· Other duties as assigned.


Expectations for All Camp Staff:

· Abide and apply the personnel and program policies of the camp.

· Ensure and maintain the cleanliness of camp facilities, equipment, grounds, weekly and end-of-summer cleaning and pack-up.  

· Observe good health habits, including sufficient sleep, good hygiene, reasonable eating habits and cooperation with the Medical Staff and Program Director in case of illness.

· Maintain punctual, regular and predictable attendance. 

· Attend pre-camp training and regular on-site staff meetings throughout the summer

· Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

· Respectfully takes direction from supervisor.

· Support the mission, purpose and leadership of Camp Fire and projects a positive image of Camp Fire.

· Follow all safety guidelines including the completion of accident/incident reports as needed. 

· Other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises the Assistant Kitchen Manager, Senior Cooks, Cooks, Kitchen Assistants, and any Interns. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Experience leading a team in a commercial kitchen, camp kitchen or restaurant, and experience creating menus, managing inventory and budget is required. Working knowledge of food safety principles.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Computer Skills:

Has advanced basic computer job skills including logging on to systems, ability to communicate by email, ability to compose documents, enter database information, create presentations, download forms, and preserve/backup important data.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

This position requires a valid Oregon Food Handler’s card, ServSafe certification, and First Aid & CPR certification.
