The Point of Care (POC) Laboratory Manager is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and oversight of point-of-care testing services across the organization. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including CLIA and COLA standards, while maintaining high-quality patient care and accurate diagnostic testing.  Work location is onsite in Florida.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Oversee daily operations of point-of-care testing across multiple sites 
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate POC testing personnel and coordinators 
  • Develop staffing plans and ensure adequate coverage 
  • Foster a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement 

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, COLA, and Joint Commission standards and Florida state regulations 
  • Maintain documentation for inspections and audits 
  • Serve as primary contact for regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies 

Quality Assurance & Control

  • Implement and monitor quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) programs 
  • Review QC data, proficiency testing, and corrective actions 
  • Ensure proper validation and verification of new instruments and tests 

Operations & Program Development

  • Develop and maintain POC policies and procedures 
  • Evaluate and implement new POC technologies and testing platforms 
  • Monitor test utilization, turnaround times, and performance metrics 
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to optimize testing services 

Training & Competency

  • Design and deliver training programs for non-laboratory staff performing POC testing 
  • Ensure initial and ongoing competency assessments are completed and documented 

Inventory & Budget Management

  • Manage inventory, supplies, and vendor relationships 
  • Assist with budget planning and cost control initiative 
Requirements


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field 

Certification

  • ASCP or equivalent certification 

Experience

  • 3+ years of clinical laboratory experience 
  • 1+ year of leadership or supervisory experience (preferred) 
  • Experience with point-of-care testing programs strongly preferred 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of CLIA, COLA, and Joint Commission standards 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple sites and priorities 
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) and POC data management systems 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities 

Work Environment - Florida work location 

  • Hospital operating room (OR) suites and laboratory office settings
