The Library Associate 2 is the entry-level position in the Library Associate job family and plays an important role in creating a welcoming, efficient, and engaging experience for the community at Camarillo Public Library. Under the direction of library management, this position performs a variety of moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties that support daily library operations, with a primary focus on public service at the circulation desk.
As one of the first points of contact for patrons, the Library Associate 2 delivers outstanding customer service, assists with circulation activities, helps patrons access library resources and technology, and supports a positive, community-centered environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, solving problems, and contributing to a library that serves as a vibrant hub for learning, connection, and discovery.
The Library Associate 2 also supports day-to-day branch operations by helping maintain organized collections, assisting with library programs and services, and ensuring patrons have a positive and helpful experience each time they visit.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
- Deliver welcoming, responsive customer service by greeting patrons, registering new library users, issuing library cards, checking materials in and out, and assisting with patron account questions.
- Support patrons in accessing library resources by helping locate materials, directing them to appropriate service desks, assisting with public computers, and explaining library procedures such as checkout, internet access, printing, and copying.
- Check in, sort, and process returned library materials accurately and efficiently to maintain smooth daily circulation operations.
- Accept and process fines, fees, and other payments in accordance with established library procedures.
- Share information with patrons about library programs, events, meeting spaces, and available services to encourage community engagement.
- Prepare and mail library materials as needed for homebound or outreach-related library services.
- Shelve, organize, and maintain library collections to ensure materials are accessible, orderly, and inviting for patrons.
- Help maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming library environment by addressing patron concerns appropriately and escalating conduct or safety issues to management when needed.
- Protect patron confidentiality by following all legal requirements and library policies related to privacy and custodianship of patron records.
- Assist with general branch operations and perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of Camarillo Public Library and its community.
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education,
training and/or work experience required.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Two years of library, customer service, or public-facing experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of library systems, databases, and circulation procedures preferred
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, and weekends based on operational needs
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with patrons of all ages and backgrounds
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and general computer applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn new technologies and assist patrons with basic digital services
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also managing assigned tasks independently
- English/Spanish bilingual skills are highly desirable and valued in serving the community
Physical Requirements
- Frequently move throughout the library to assist patrons, access service areas, and retrieve or shelve materials in various locations, including high and low shelving.
- Lift, carry, push, or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 35 pounds, including books, boxes, and library equipment.
- Perform tasks that require bending, stooping, reaching, stretching, and climbing to access library materials and supplies.
- Work in confined spaces as needed when organizing collections, storage areas, or service points.
- Remain mobile for extended periods, including walking and standing throughout the workday.
