Mercersburg Academy is seeking a dynamic, organized, and student-centered Assistant Director of Athletics to support the daily operations and strategic vision of our athletics program. The Assistant Director of Athletics supports the mission, values and vision of Mercersburg Academy, playing a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of athletic events, schedules, and team operations, while also engaging in student life through coaching and residential responsibilities.
Athletic Operations & Event Management
- Manage all aspects of competition logistics, including home game setup, event staffing, on-site supervision and meals for visiting or traveling teams when needed. Special attention to day families on travel days is needed; they may need to come as far as 30-45 minutes to pick up their child.
- Coordinate yearly athletic schedules with head coaches and ensure alignment across teams and facilities.
- Oversee all aspects of practice scheduling, including indoor space management and adjustments due to weather or other conflicts.
- Help manage athletic break travel, ensuring proper coordination with coaches, transportation, and families.
- Coordinate HUDL processes and manage game film for all varsity teams as well as oversee game broadcast and student interns.
- This includes set-up and breakdown of equipment.
Team Apparel & Branding
- Assist with team apparel orders, ensuring timely and accurate distribution.
- Coordinate with coaches and student-athletes on uniforms and spirit wear, ensuring consistency with school branding and team needs.
Student-Athlete Leadership
- Lead and provide oversight to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and 6th Man Club, fostering student leadership and school spirit.
- Create and promote initiatives that enhance the student-athlete experience and build community engagement.
- Lead and provide oversight for student sports media broadcasters.
Record Keeping & Recognition Displays
- Maintain all athletic record boards and special award winner displays, updating regularly and ensuring visual consistency.
- Work with Communications and the Athletic Department to uphold historical and current athletic achievements.
Coaching & Community Engagement
- Serve as a coach in one or more athletic seasons, modeling excellence, sportsmanship, and commitment to team values.
- Participate in the school’s residential life program, contributing to the holistic development of students in dormitory settings and campus life.

- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Previous experience in athletic administration or coaching, ideally in an independent school or collegiate setting.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A demonstrated passion for education-based athletics and student development.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
