The Junior Database Developer is responsible for assisting with the technical design, development, and ongoing improvement of Asurint’s databases and systems by reviewing/troubleshooting daily data load jobs, reviewing query performance, data loading and data extraction, deadlock resolution, stored procedure development, and assisting with level 1 database administration and monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Works with the DBA team to help coordinate and assist development teams in creating database procedures, functions, and triggers.
- Executes database-related activities for changes to all database objects, primarily in OLTP designs.
- Conducts performance tuning using SQL query, stored procedures, and database engine under the guidance of senior-level staff.
- Assists with managing the Criminal Records database, including support and creation of SQL Agent jobs, complex query construction, and other support as deemed appropriate.
- Assists with identifying production performance issues, blocking and deadlocks, and long-running queries.
- Assists with the administration, high availability, redundancy, security, and performance monitoring of all relational databases in production and non-production environments.
- Performs daily system health checks including reviewing job failures and basic troubleshooting. Coordinates with other teams to address issues and escalates them to senior-level staff when appropriate.
- Assists with creating database, process, and technical documentation.
- Participates in release process meetings.
- Collaborates with team members and business partners in defining, designing, developing, and implementing technology solutions to improve business functions.
- Provides support before, during, and after normal business hours as well as nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Other duties as required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience designing solutions with Microsoft and SQL Server 2012 or higher is required.
- Experience using a variety of methods to identify and resolve database performance issues or errors is preferred.
- Experience with Source Control repositories is preferred.
- Experience with extract/transform/load (ETL) tools such as SSIS and reporting with tools such as SSRS preferred.
- Experience utilizing XML structures within data stores preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft technologies (ASP.Net, C#, etc.) and object-oriented development concepts preferred.
- Experience with the legal/court system is preferred.
- Experience with background screening is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required. Relevant business management systems such as general ledger, HRIS, CRM, etc. is preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Certifications or licensure: If you do any work-related driving while at Asurint, a driver’s license and ability to maintain a driving record that is satisfactory to the company’s liability insurance carrier is required.
- Years of relevant experience: 1 to 2 years is preferred.
- Years of experience supervising: None.
Working Conditions

- This position is performed remotely within the United States or in an office setting in the Cleveland, Ohio headquarters, although off-site meetings in various settings may occur.
- Inside Asurint’s office environment, the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
- In a remote setting, the employee is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment, for arranging the off-site workspace in an ergonomically sound manner, and for maintaining standard Internet speeds in order to work effectively.
- In a remote setting, the employee is required to ensure that all equipment and records that are the property of Asurint but have been relocated to the off-site workplace, are maintained in a safe and secure manner and are used only for business purposes.
- The schedule is generally normal Eastern Time Zone business hours (unless otherwise communicated based on position or working location), although the employee may be required to perform work, attend meetings and events before or after normal workings hours, and occasionally on weekends and evenings.
- Some travel by personal automobile and a valid driver’s license may be required. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Ability to lift light objects (less than 20 pounds) and carry them short distances (20 feet or less) is required.
