Job Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, storage, and organization of raw materials, parts, and finished goods throughout the facility. This role supports production by ensuring materials are delivered accurately and on time, inventory is maintained properly, and warehouse/work areas meet 5S standards. The Material Handler plays a key role in maintaining inventory accuracy, conducting audits, and promoting a clean, organized, and safe workplace.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

· Material Movement & Production Support

· Safely transport materials, components, and products throughout the plant using forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, or other approved equipment.

· Deliver materials to production lines in a timely manner to prevent downtime.

· Load and unload incoming and outgoing shipments.

· Verify materials received match purchase orders, packing slips, or transfer documents.

· Stage materials for production, shipping, or storage as needed.

· Inventory Control & Auditing

· Maintain accurate inventory records through scanning systems, ERP transactions, or manual logs.

· Conduct routine cycle counts and physical inventory audits.

· Investigate and report inventory discrepancies, shortages, or damaged materials.

· Ensure all materials are labeled and stored in correct locations.

· Assist with year-end or scheduled full inventory counts.

5S & Workplace Organization

· Maintain clean, safe, and organized warehouse and production storage areas.

· Follow and support 5S principles: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain.

· Identify opportunities to improve storage layout, material flow, and workplace efficiency.

· Remove waste, clutter, and unsafe conditions from work areas.

Safety & Compliance

· Operate equipment safely and in compliance with company policies.

· Perform daily forklift/equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns.

· Follow PPE requirements and plant safety rules at all times.

· Report accidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions immediately.

· Teamwork & Continuous Improvement

· Communicate material shortages or delays to supervisors and production teams.

· Work closely with Purchasing, Shipping, Receiving, and Production departments.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve inventory control and material flow.

· Cross-train in other warehouse or logistics functions as needed.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED preferred.

· Previous warehouse, manufacturing, or material handling experience preferred.

· Forklift certification or ability to become certified required.

· Basic computer skills for inventory systems, scanners, and data entry.

· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

· Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

· Good communication and problem-solving skills.

· Physical Requirements

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach throughout shift.

· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.

Work Environment

This position works in a fast-paced manufacturing facility supporting semi-trailer production. PPE is required in designated areas.
