Laundry Worker

Part-Time 3 shifts/week, Every other weekend required

Pay Rate: $17.25


The laundry worker is responsible for collecting, sorting, laundering, labeling and delivery of linen and clothing for both ECH and REM residents.  


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Address residents by greeting them and asking them of any laundry needs
  • Separate colored and white clothes and linens
  • Ensure that whites are separated regardless of the type of clothes
  • Ensure that each pile of REM residents clothes is separated within their individual mesh bag
  • Heat seal resident name and room number specific labels onto resident clothing after generating designated number of labels, according to departmental procedure.
  • Inspect each item for nicks, tears or stains prior to washing and inform residents of any concerns
  • Select proper wash formula and initiate wash process once machine is loaded according to departmental procedure.
  • Lift washed items from the washer and place them in the dryer
  • Ensure that that the right amount of items have been loaded into the dryer
  • Set the dryer at appropriate drying time depending on the type of clothes
  • Sort dried clothes and fold and hang them appropriately
  • Place folded clothes in the resident drawers and closets in accordance to tags
  • Make sure that the resident clothes are returned to the appropriate designated resident per schedule
  • Ensure that lint filters are cleaned per departmental procedure
  • Clean washers, dryers and any other equipment per departmental procedure
  • Monitor washing supplies and linen and notify supervisor when needing to order
  • Assist in the location of misplaced articles of resident clothing as specified by missing article reports and report progress to supervisor.
  • Wipe down and clean all machinery at completion of shift and as needed
  • Sweep floor and organize laundry appearance daily at the completion of shift
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing/devices whenever performing tasks requiring the handling of infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids
  • Report any hazardous conditions or equipment malfunctions to laundry crew leader or supervisor
  • Wear departmental uniform on a daily basis.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to receive and give oral and written directions.
  • May be required to lift, push, pull and/or move equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the workday. 
  • High school graduate or equivalent, or willingness to learn procedures necessary for position. 
  • Six months laundry experience preferred.

Performing duties of this job requires occasional walking and standing in and around the reception area, and lobby. Must be able to regularly lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance and the ability to sit, talk, and hear is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The majority of essential job duties are performed indoors, in a setting with loud equipment and machines. Being located in the laundry area may expose the employee to elevated temperature fluctuations.  


This position will be required to provide direct care or have access to resident property or belongings


SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP: The work is performed within established guidelines, and requires periodic supervision. The employee exercises some initiative and independent judgment to effectively perform the essential job duties of this position.


RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS: The employee has no direct responsibility for others. 


SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: Shall be fully acquainted with all safety policies and procedures of the Church Home. Takes an active role in all fire drills during the shift and/or emergencies for internal and external disasters as monitored by supervisor and incident manager. Must comply with facility in-service requirements.
