Purpose of Role:

As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will play a key role in fostering positive relationships across the agency. This position will collaborative closely with supervisors and management to provide input and guidance on employee-related matters to manage and resolve workplace concerns and conflicts, and address and resolve workplace issues fairly, consistently, and in compliance with laws, regulations and internal policies, contributing to the development and maintenance of a healthy organizational culture.

  • Excellent time management and prioritization.
  • Strong knowledge in effective investigative methods and analysis techniques.
  • Proficient in MS 365

Position Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources or closely related field, master’s degree desirable; and at least two to four years of demonstrated experience in the areas of employee relations, mediation, conflict resolution, performance management and employment law and compliance training. 
  • Experience collaborating with legal counsel to ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations, preferred.
  • Certification of good DMV record; valid California driver's license, auto registration and insurance. 
  • Position is contingent upon a successful criminal and background clearance. 
  • SHRM certifications helpful.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  1. Provide support to employees, supervisors and managers to maintain and sustain a positive and constructive workforce.
  2. Provide advice and input to management on a variety of employee relation areas and topics.
  3. Remain abreast of changes in employment laws and regulations.
  4. Propose updates to policy and communicate necessary updates regarding policies and practices to maintain legal compliance with regards to employee relations.
  5. Identify patterns and trends that may indicate training needs, policy gaps, or compliance risks with recommended actions.
  6. Propose and develop initiatives that improve employee engagement, retention, and workplace culture.
  7. Provide policy interpretation, orientation and training to employees, supervisors and managers related to employment laws and employee relations.
  8. Develop training content and/or conduct training sessions related to employee relations, workplace ethics, discrimination prevention, and conflict resolution to educate and empower employees and management.
  9. Conduct and/or support employee stay and exit interviews.
  10. Participate in the development of goals and objectives related to employee relations.
  11. Prepare reports and perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Work Schedule:

Full-time, Monday—Friday, 40 hours per week, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. However, may require evening and weekend hours based on the needs of the department.
