Position Title: Control Center Operator 1

Department: Electric Operations & Engineering/Field Operations

Reports to: Control Center Superintendent

Supervision Received: Direct Supervision

Supervision Exercised: None

FLSA Status: Non Exempt


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor all systems and equipment in the Control Center.
  • Alert operators of all conditions, alarms and advisories that affect the Bluebonnet’s electrical system.
  • Answer trouble calls from membership and record pertinent customer account information.
  • Demonstrate interest in improving Bluebonnet’s service and efficiency with progressive technology and a positive image.
  • Notify and assist emergency response personnel as directed.
  • Perform recloser monitoring, operation and testing through SCADA system and equipment.
  • Comprehend and adhere to established Bluebonnet employee policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist in entering real time events into all event and daily logs.
  • Monitor weather and operating conditions affecting the safe and reliable operations of the Bluebonnet electrical system.
  • General awareness of current developments in areas of interest to the department.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with all employees, members, and vendors at all times.
  • Maintain regular attendance; arrives to work on time and is prepared to work.
  • Use safe work practices and judgments at all times and in all situations.
  • Required to be on-call, available to work weekends, holidays and non-standard hours as needed.
  • Attend various schools and in-house training classes.
  • Travel to various Bluebonnet offices and locations to assist in operations.
  • Demonstrate and act in accordance with Bluebonnet's Values.
  • Must be able to appropriately handle confidential information and act within the practices established by the Bluebonnet Red Flag policy.
  • Maintain Tour ready Control Center at all times.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Tools and Equipment Used:

  • Office Equipment including computer, large touch-screen computer, printers, copier, radio system, fax, etc.
  • May be required to drive a cooperative vehicle.
  • According to established need, must maintain a mobile phone and appropriate communication plan.


Physical Demands:

  • Requires repetitive motion of hands and fingers such as dialing and keyboarding.
  • Light lifting of up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to remain alert over a 12-hour period in order to respond to a variety of emerging events.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift and extra hours when required.
  • Ability to perform multiple duties with high degree of accuracy.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and environment.
  • Occasional travel with overnight stays to attend conferences and training seminars or workshops may be required.


Work Environment:

  • Typical office environment.
  • Hours are consistent with shift work as well as employee and member requirements.
  • Attendance at evening meetings, conferences, workshops and other professional meetings including overnight travel may be required.


Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Utility industry experience preferred.
  • Associates degree preferred or technical or vocational training in computers, math or electrical theory.
  • High School level command of spelling, grammar and math required.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in related field, preferably in real-time operation and control of electric transmission or distribution systems, transmission or distribution field operations or Control Center atmosphere.


Licensing and Certification:

  • System Operator certification preferred.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must be certified in CPR, First Aid, AED and Blood-borne pathogens.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
  • Ability to enter data into Customer Information System.
  • Ability to perform multiple duties and tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Solve problems effectively with direct supervision.
  • Maintain a high degree of professional excellence.
  • Basic computer skills in the following applications: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and SAP time entry.
  • Interpersonal skills that result in effective working relationships with peers, members and vendors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a positive manner; focused on improvement or problem resolution in a constructive, positive, and professional manner.
