Description

Chronicle Books is looking for an Editorial Assistant to support the Art & Entertainment publishing groups by providing administrative, editorial, and project management support primarily to the publisher and A&E editorial team. The Editorial Assistant will be responsible for managing assigned editorial acquisitions, successfully executing the original visions, and bringing projects to on-time publication. This entry level position is an excellent start for anyone interested in illustrated books and gift publishing. 


Key Responsibilities:

The Editorial Assistant will take notes for transmittals and meetings, log and evaluate submissions, read and evaluate manuscripts and track galleys through the editorial process. They will oversee corrections to manuscripts, maintain title schedules and title files, and assist Design, Production, and Sales and Marketing to shape and execute the vision of a title. Generating title memos and copy for tip sheets, soliciting back cover quotes, and communicating with authors, artists, packagers, overseas publishers, and literary agents throughout the editorial process will be central to this role. In addition, the person in this role will assist with proposal and consumer research, order books and product samples for reference, create contractual check requests, maintain schedules and agendas, and assemble PowerPoint presentations.

  

Schedule:

Employees at Chronicle Books follow a flexible hybrid schedule of working a minimum of 3 days per week and up to 4 days per week in our San Francisco office, depending on project and business needs. Please note that this job description is not designed to cover all activities required of the employee.
 

Hiring Salary Range:

$24.52/hr - $28.25/hr. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including but not limited to the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible for our profit share plan.

Requirements

The A&E Editorial Assistant will need a passion for illustrated book and gift publishing, with strong interests in some of the following categories: illustrated books, pop culture, art, and photography, and gift products such as stationery and novelty items. They will need proven editorial experience (copyediting skills, proofreading skills, and attention to detail), demonstrated skills in copywriting and written communications, and have expert organizational, administrative, and time management skills. In addition, they should have an ability to work well with a wide variety of people, be strongly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative group, be able to manage many details and tasks simultaneously. The Editorial Assistant should be an ambassador for Chronicle Books publishing, enhancing the company’s reputation among creators, retailers, librarians, the media, publishing peers, and end consumers. 

Salary Description
$24.52/hr - $28.25/hr.
