Description: The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants is seeking a motivated intern to support services for Haitian and Cuban families. The intern would work closely with our senior case manager to conduct outreach to the Haitian and Cuban communities and explain services to new and prospective clients. Fluency in Haitian Creole OR Spanish is required. 


Key Responsibilities 

1. Conduct outreach with the Haitian and Cuban communities to connect families to CIRI services 

2. Provide language support and interpretation 

3. Review prospective clients’ eligibility for services 

4. Support client intake and referrals, ensuring individuals are connected with appropriate case management and resources


Duration and Schedule: This is an unpaid internship position requiring a commitment of 8-15 hours per week for a duration of one semester (May through August). The schedule is flexible and can be tailored to accommodate the intern's academic requirements.


Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Social Work, International Relations, Human Services, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience or comfortability with public speaking 
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
  • Fluency in Haitian Creole OR Spanish is required 
  • Experience with translation and interpretation is highly recommended
