Elementary Teacher Job Summary
The Elementary Teacher is responsible for guiding students to develop attitudes, skills, and subject knowledge that promote maturity, responsibility, and Christian values, all to the glory of God.
Essential Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership
- Embrace the call to teach in a Christian environment.
- Foster a Christ-centered classroom atmosphere.
- Encourage students to accept Christ's gift of salvation and recognize their worth in Him.
- Model high standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism.
- Work with the administration to address students' spiritual needs.
- Practice the principles of Matthew 18 in resolving conflicts.
- Provide Christ-centered counseling as needed.
Academic Leadership
- Uphold the school’s Christian philosophy and worldview in teaching.
- Familiarize yourself with the curriculum, mission, and standards.
- Integrate biblical principles into all lessons and activities.
- Plan and teach in accordance with the prescribed curriculum.
- Create a professional, Christian classroom environment.
- Assess students' development and tailor instruction to meet individual needs.
- Use various teaching methods to engage students in all areas of growth—spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.
- Regularly assess student progress and provide parents with feedback.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and address concerns promptly.
- Pursue ongoing professional development through reading, coursework, and workshops.
Administrative Leadership
- Support school policies and work with staff to achieve school goals.
- Maintain classroom discipline and create a productive learning environment.
- Attend staff meetings and collaborate with colleagues to resolve issues.
- Attend school events such as chapels, assemblies, and athletic activities.
- Coordinate with substitute teachers as necessary.
- Maintain accurate attendance and grade records.
- Communicate student progress to parents and administration.
- Participate in school safety drills and report any safety concerns.
- Keep the administration informed about any absences or issues.
Additional Responsibilities
- Represent the school positively in the community.
- Participate in fundraising, recruitment, and retention efforts.
- Supervise extracurricular activities and assist with school events.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
- Help with the end-of-year inventory and closing procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
- Teaching certification (ACSI or willingness to obtain).
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to Christian education and integration of faith with learning.
