CAD Drafting Intern
Description

The CAD Drafting Intern will support the design and production teams by creating standardized 2D drawings from existing 3D furniture models in Fusion 360. This role focuses on the drafting, documentation, and version control work that keeps our CAD library organized and production ready. The intern will not be building new models from scratch — instead, they'll turn our existing models into clean, consistent, manufacturable drawings and ensure the library stays accurate and up to date.

What You'll Do

  • Generate standard 2D production drawings from existing 3D CAD models in Fusion 360, including orthographic views, dimensions, exploded views, and bills of materials
  • Apply consistent drafting standards (title blocks, dimensioning conventions, annotations, layers, and sheet formats) across all drawings
  • Manage version control for existing models and drawings — tracking revisions, updating drawing sets when models change, and ensuring the latest approved versions are in use
  • Organize and maintain the CAD file library, including naming conventions, folder structure, metadata, and archival of superseded versions
  • Update and revise existing drawings based on feedback from production, engineering, or sales teams
  • Build and maintain a library of standardized drawing templates and reusable components from existing models
  • Verify that drawings accurately reflect the source 3D models and flag any inconsistencies or manufacturability concerns to the design team
  • Assist with documentation tasks such as revision logs, change notices, and drawing release records
  • Collaborate with design, sales, and production teams to improve drafting workflows and documentation processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to CAD standards and file management

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/certification in Drafting, Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field
  • Basic to intermediate experience with Fusion 360 (or similar CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD), with comfort navigating existing models and producing drawings from them
  • Understanding of drafting standards, dimensioning, tolerancing, and technical drawing conventions
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy — this role is all about consistency
  • Strong organizational skills and a methodical approach to file management and version control
  • Ability to interpret existing 3D models, measurements, and design intent
  • Strong time management and ability to handle repetitive documentation work carefully
  • Willingness to learn and take direction in a fast-paced environment
  • Interest in furniture design, woodworking, or manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with CNC machining or production workflows is a plus
  • Basic understanding of materials (wood types, hardware, finishes) is a plus

What You'll Gain

  • Hands-on experience in a real-world manufacturing environment
  • Deep exposure to CAD documentation, drafting standards, and version control practices used in production
  • Opportunity to build a professional portfolio of standardized CAD drawings
  • Mentorship from experienced design and production professionals

Work Environment

  • Combination of office/design work and exposure to production floor operations
  • Collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on craftsmanship and innovation
