SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees daily clinical and dispensing operations, including both clinic-based and mobile medication unit. Ensures safe, compliant delivery of medication-assisted treatment while maintaining adherence to federal, state, and location regulations, including those set by SAMHSA, DEA, and CARF. The hours for this full-time, exempt, in-person, position are Monday-Friday rotating Saturdays totaling 40 hours. The pay for this role is $95,680.00 to $104,000.00. The Medical Services Supervisor will be located at our Shoreline Branch and will oversee the daily operations of our Medical Mobile Unit.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position is directly supervised by the Medical Director for all functions related to methadone dispensing and patient medical services. The Medical Services Supervisor provides direct supervision to onsite Dispensary Nurses.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
1. Clinical & Dispensing Oversight:
a. Utilize the Medical and Dispensary Manual as a guide for clinical and dispensing oversight and requirements.
b. Oversee the daily operations of the clinic, inclusive of staffing and day-to-day activities of the dispensary nurses
c. Supervise medication preparation and dispensing activities at the clinic and mobile unit
d. Ensure accurate dosing, documentation, and patient procedures
e. Monitors patients
f. Collaborate with providers on dosing adjustments and clinical concerns
g. Ensures security of medication, maintains accurate and current methadone inventory and dispensing reporting records.
2. Mobile Unit Operations:
a. Utilize the Mobile Unit Manual as a guide for mobile unit operation requirements.
b. Oversee daily operations of the mobile medication unit, including setup, transport readiness, and security
c. Ensure proper storage, transport, and reconciliation of controlled substances
d. Maintain chain-of-custody documentation for medications between the clinic and mobile unit
e. Ensure compliance with mobile unit regulations and site-specific protocols
f. Provide dispensing administration coverage as needed
3. Clinic Float Assignments:
a. May be assigned to float to provide jail dosing coverage at Summit branch
b. May provide supervisory coverage at another THS OTP branch in the absence of another Medical Services Supervisor with supervision from Medical Director
c. May float between the registered fixed site and the mobile unit to ensure continuity of care, consistent with agency policies and procedures
4. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance:
a. Ensures adherence of medical unit procedures and practices in accordance with Federal, State, and County regulations, and within THS policies and procedures
b. Maintain accurate controlled substance inventory and perform routine audits
c. Investigate and resolve discrepancies, incidents, or potential diversion
d. Oversee documentation standards and readiness for inspections
e. Ensure all licenses (business, facility, and staff licenses) are up to date and are posted appropriately
5. Staff Supervision & Development:
a. Supervise nurses in the delivery of medical services through the OTP clinic and mobile unit
b. Provide training, as needed (e.g. medication protocols, new P&P’s, safety procedures, regulatory requirements, etc.)
c. Conduct performance evaluations and address performance issues
d. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and respectful patient care
6. Patient Safety & Risk Management:
a. Implement protocols to prevent medication errors and diversion, by ensuring policies and procedures are in place
b. Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate appropriate care (Code Blue)
c. Ensure infection control and safe clinical practices
d. Support harm reduction strategies and patient engagement
7. Collaboration & Communication:
a. Liaison with other community treatment facilities and health care providers necessary to coordinate client care.
b. Conduct and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings weekly
c. Communicate policy updates and procedural changes to staff
d. Coordinate care with internal staff and external agencies to help facilitate patient care
8. Administrative Duties:
a. Utilize the Medical and Dispensary Manual as a guide on the required activities and duties of this position as it relates to requirements of the day-to-day of the clinic and mobile unit.
b. Monitors inventory and orders supplies necessary to the functioning of the medical unit and dispensary.
c. Manage staffing schedules for clinic and mobile unit coverage, as needed
d. Complete all required reporting requirements
e. Attend all required meetings
9. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Washington
2. Two years nursing supervisory experience, or at least 5 years experience as a dispensary nurse (RN/LPN) in an OTP.
3. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations pertaining to substance use disorder treatment services and knowledge of the dispensing of methadone and other drugs in a drug treatment setting, preferred.
4. Strong knowledge of health care regulations related to Opioid Treatment Programs, preferred.
