GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
St. Mary’s Catholic Center seeks a highly motivated leader who enjoys working with people, is mission-driven, and possesses the skills necessary to support the ministry through the care of its facilities. The Maintenance Student Worker reports directly to the Director of Facilities.
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:
St. Mary’s Catholic Center at Texas A&M University has the mission to form apostles for the Church and the world. We are a ministry of the New Evangelization who believe in exercising a dynamic orthodoxy, faithful to the Church’s instruction, engaging and fervent, in a manner that reaches the hearts of the faithful and the unchurched. The Maintenance Student Worker is a member of the operations team at St. Mary’s Catholic Center.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The Maintenance Student Worker is responsible for working with the administration, pastoral, and development teams to support the mission and activities of the parish.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Opening and securing/closing all Center facilities at the designated times.
- Picking up outside trash on a daily basis, including the large parking area.
- Picking up inside trash and straightening inside areas daily.
- Straightening and cleaning kitchen counters and equipment daily.
- Maintaining the dumpsters/service yard.
- Completing daily room setups as part of the closing shift, or if unable to complete the night prior, before the event.
- Regularly checking, especially on weekends, restroom paper supplies and cleanliness and addressing needs as required.
- Putting out cones and closing gates to the parking lot as openers, and opening gates and storing cones in the afternoon.
- Assessing and reporting maintenance issues.
- As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Mary’s Catholic Center in both your professional and personal life.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
Daily Opening Responsibilities:
- Unlock all doors not electronically controlled at 7 a.m. during the school year and at 8 a.m. during the summer.
- Pick up all outside trash, including the main parking lot.
- Put up daily door tags and remove all door tags from the prior day.
- Display the daily activities sheet at the receptionist desk and Holy Roastary coffee bar.
- Check and refill restroom paper supplies in the old church.
- Check and empty trash and recycling from the rectory and Breen deck.
- Empty and relocate trash cans in the event center, activity center, and kitchen on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
- Check all classrooms and common areas to ensure orderliness and fix any issues found.
- Perform other duties as noted on check sheets or as needed.
Daily Closing Responsibilities:
- Clear all buildings of guests, close, and lock all doors not electronically controlled at 11 p.m. during the school year and at 10 p.m. during the summer.
- Complete all room setups for the following day, or if unable, plan accordingly by contacting other MSWs or returning prior to event time to finish.
- Check all classrooms and common areas to ensure orderliness and fix any issues found.
- Check and empty all classroom, restroom, and common area trash cans on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- Empty mailroom recycling into the proper dumpster on Tuesdays.
- Restock all student center restroom paper supplies on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Restock all new church restroom paper supplies on Saturdays.
- Perform other duties as noted on check sheets or as needed.
- Complete other duties and maintenance as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Good work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle and lift loads of 50 lbs and move furniture appropriately.
- Any candidate must be able to support the mission of St. Mary’s Catholic Center and its role as a Catholic institution.
EDUCATION
- Student Enrolled at either:
- Texas A&M
- Rellis
- Blinn College
EXPERIENCE
- Preference will be given to applicants who have knowledge or experience in the following:
- Carpentry
- Painting
- Simple plumbing and electrical work
- Basic equipment and facility repair
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies through the employment period.
JOB CONDITION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed in a church or office setting with daily and weekly deadlines. The parish is an at-will employer. The candidate must have the flexibility and availability to be present on some nights, weekends, and holidays. While performing the duties of this job, the Maintenance Student Worker is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and wrists. The ability to lift and move items up to fifty pounds and the ability to perform physical tasks related to facility maintenance is required.
