Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
- The Therapy Intern position is designed for current Maryland Wellness staff who are enrolled in a Master’s-level Counseling or Social Work program and are completing practicum or internship requirements.
- This opportunity is intended to support professional growth and development as part of the pathway toward a therapist role. Interns will gain supervised, hands-on clinical experience in an outpatient mental health setting, including exposure to assessments, treatment planning, documentation, and group therapy.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in clinical supervision with an assigned licensed mental health professional in accordance with school requirements
- Shadow therapy sessions (as appropriate and with client consent) to observe clinical interventions and therapeutic approaches
- Assist with and gradually participate in intake/assessment processes, as appropriate to training level
- Support development of treatment plans, progress notes, PRP referrals and clinical documentation within the EHR
- Co-facilitate group therapy sessions and participate in group planning and preparation
- Collaborate with therapy and medication management providers to develop an understanding of clinical decision-making, interdisciplinary treatment planning, and coordinated care delivery
- Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in alignment with organizational, regulatory, and payer standards
- Adhere to all confidentiality requirements, including HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and all applicable federal, state, and organizational policies related to the protection of protected health information (PHI)
- Communicate proactively with supervisors regarding schedule coordination, workload, and support needs
- Apply knowledge and skills from academic coursework to clinical practice in a supervised setting
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently employed with Maryland Wellness
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Master’s-level Counseling or Social Work program
- Eligible to participate in practicum and/or internship per school requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and balance internship responsibilities with current job duties
- Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and openness to feedback
- Ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and professional boundaries
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related behavioral health field
- Prior experience in behavioral health strongly preferred
