We are currently seeking an Estimator II.  The Estimator plays a pivotal role in the estimating department by preparing comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for HVAC and plumbing systems in commercial construction projects. This position collaborates with the takeoff analysts, project managers, and subcontractors to ensure that all estimates are based on accurate data and reflect the true scope of the project. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing bid proposals, analyzing project requirements, and ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient solutions are proposed to meet the client's needs. The core areas of responsibility are listed below, however other duties and responsibilities may be required to meet business needs and objectives.
Requirements

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (LIST IS NOT INCLUSIVE)

Prepare and organize Request for Proposal (RFP) documents

• Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for HVAC and plumbing systems, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

• Develop and analyze project bids, ensuring accurate estimation of all resources required for the successful completion of projects.

• Solicit and analyze bids from trade partners and vendors to develop comparison summaries.

• Create bid proposals and submit them to clients, ensuring that they are competitive, complete, and meet the project specifications.

• Collaborate with the takeoff analysts to incorporate detailed material and labor estimates into the overall bid.

• Assist with or lead efforts to solicit new bidders for upcoming projects.

• Interact with sales teams to gather missing information and suggest cost-saving solutions.

• Collaborate with designers, contractors, and clients to ensure clear communication of requirements.


Estimating and Cost Management

• Oversee the development of material takeoffs, labor estimates, and equipment requirements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project plans and specifications.

• Analyze subcontractor bids, including review of scope and pricing, to provide competitive and accurate proposals.

• Review and assess project specifications, drawings, and bid documents to identify potential risks, opportunities, and cost saving strategies.


Project Coordination & Communication:

• Review project specifications, drawings, and requirements.

• Participate in plan review meetings, site visits, and project review discussions

• Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to gather pricing, material availability, and other necessary information to prepare estimates.

• Input data into estimating software and ensure accurate tracking of estimates.

• Coordinate project schedules, estimating general contractor timelines.

• Capture and maintain historical cost data for future use.

• Provide technical product support to customers and internal stakeholders.


Bid Review & Risk Management:

• Review bids with senior Estimating management to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission.

• Identify project risks and incorporate contingency plans into estimates to minimize potential cost overruns.

• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project scope and requirements.


Required Skills and Abilities:

• Strong understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems, materials, and construction methods.

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

• Ability to prepare and analyze detailed cost estimates and proposals.

• Proficient in construction estimating and other software (e.g. Quotesoft, BidTracer, Salesforce,) and MS Suite.

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively present proposals and interact with clients and subcontractors.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

• Ability to meet deadlines and handle fast-paced environments.

• Willingness to travel as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

• 3-5+ years of experience in estimating for mechanical contracting, particularly HVAC and plumbing systems.

• High school diploma or GED Required. Bachelor’s Degree Construction Management, Administration preferred.

• Strong knowledge of mechanical system design, construction methods, and project costs.

• Experience with estimating software and tools.

Level 2:

• Moderate experience with estimating, capable of handling more complex projects with minimal supervision.

• Able to perform cost estimations for medium-sized projects, including both materials and labor.

• Contributes to bid preparation and coordinates with subcontractors to gather necessary data for estimates.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Required to stand, walk, and sit.

• Talk or hear, both in person and by telephone.

• Use hand (s) and fingers to handle or feel objects or controls. 

• Reach with hand (s) and arm (s). 

• Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.
