The Paint and Body Technician at Newman Tractor is responsible for delivering excellent results for our customers by performing high-quality cosmetic repairs on a wide range of construction equipment, including dozers, articulated dump trucks, excavators, skid steers, rollers, loaders, tractors, and more. This role supports equipment across multiple brands such as Sany, CAT, Volvo, Bell, and Kubota. The position requires strong attention to detail, precision, efficiency, and strict adherence to all safety standards. The technician will assist the Lead Painter and, over time, develop the skills necessary to serve as a backup in all areas of paint and body repair. - Assist the Lead Painter in repairing and painting the surfaces of construction equipment using spray-painting equipment, power tools and other industry equipment
- Accepts assigned work orders from Service Manager to begin planning or prepping paint or body work required to repair construction equipment or attachments
- Repair and restore heavy construction equipment bodies, frames, and paint surfaces to meet quality standards
- Prepare equipment surfaces for painting, including sanding, wet sanding, buffing, masking, and priming
- Perform bodywork repairs, including welding, panel replacement, and dent removal
- Sand, mask & paint surfaces, as well as blend & polish finish to match the surrounding areas
- Sandblasting attachments or components using portable compressor and gear
- Understand the nuances of color matching different paint and/or mix specified color for machines being prepped for paint
- Apply paint, coatings, and finishes using spray guns and other equipment, ensuring durability and aesthetic quality
- Conduct inspections to identify damage or wear and determine appropriate repair procedures
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and work performed
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects and high-quality workmanship
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a body technician or painter, preferably with heavy construction equipment
- Knowledge of welding, metal fabrication, and body repair technique
- Proficiency in surface preparation, painting, and finishing techniques
- Ownership of a complete set of tools associated with position
- Ability to operate spray guns, sanders, grinders, and other relevant tools
- Strong understanding of safety procedures related to painting and bodywork
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical ability to lift heavy parts and work in various environmental conditions
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in body repair or painting is a plus
- Self-motivated with trainable attitude
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
