JOB SUMMARY (Day-in-the-Life)

The Retail Designer is responsible for creating accurate layout designs and installation drawings using 2020 Design to support retail customer presentations and field execution. This role partners closely with Sales, Retail Project Managers, Field Supervisors, Installation Teams, and vendors to ensure designs align with project specifications, measurements, and timelines.


On a daily basis, the Retail Designer manages projects from initial request through installation, reviews customer specifications and design intent, prepares measurement and layout packages, updates drawings based on field measurements, and generates complete documentation for ordering and installation. Success in this role means maintaining accuracy, meeting deadlines, supporting seamless installation, and contributing to overall customer satisfaction.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage retail design projects from initial request through final installation 
  • Review customer requirements, site plans, and design specifications for accuracy and completeness 
  • Prepare detailed measurement and design packages including floorplans, elevations, and layout drawings 
  • Coordinate with field personnel to ensure timely and accurate site measurements 
  • Review returned field measurements and identify discrepancies or design issues 
  • Create and revise layouts and elevations using 2020 
  • Develop detailed installation drawings, notes, and specifications for field teams 
  • Generate accurate material and component takeoffs for ordering and procurement 
  • Prepare and submit complete design  
  • Coordinate with sales, purchasing, warehouse, and operations teams to resolve design or fulfillment issues 
  • Track project progress and ensure deadlines for delivery and installation are met 
  • Develop installation packets including drawings, layouts, and job instructions 
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and update files in company systems 
  • Communicate proactively regarding design changes, discrepancies, or delays 
  • Follow company policies and procedures 
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned 
Requirements

  

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS


Required Qualifications

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States 
  • Proficiency in 2020 and AutoCAD (required) 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word)


Preferred Qualifications (nice-to-haves)

  • Experience in retail design, interior design, or related industry 
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting construction or retail layout plans 
  • Experience working with vendors, contractors, or field installation teams 
  • Exposure to space planning, merchandising layouts, or fixture design 

Retail design experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train motivated candidates who demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and strong technical drafting skills in AutoCAD.
