Barton Associates is a multidisciplinary MEP consulting and architectural lighting design firm, one hundred percent employee owned, headquartered in York, Pennsylvania with six offices. We are hired to design the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems inside buildings, produce the documents, seal them and stand behind them. We have been named a Nationally Recognized MEP Giants Top 100 Firm and a Best Place to Work in Pennsylvania.

This is a design seat in our York office. You would carry electrical systems on commercial and institutional projects from concept through construction, run the studies that sit behind them, and put your seal on the set.

The Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Level Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Electrical design and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions. This role involves leading Electrical projects, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring the successful completion of projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead electrical design on building projects. Power distribution, lighting, life safety, emergency and standby power, low voltage systems.
• Compose studies and reports. Write design narratives, facility assessments, and system recommendations reports.
• Perform power system studies. Short circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash, modeled and run by you in ETAP, SKM PowerTools or EasyPower.
• Produce construction documents, either personally or through direct oversight of production designers. Power plans, lighting plans, systems plans, panel schedules, one-line diagrams, risers and specifications in Revit and AutoCAD. 
• Serve as engineer of record. Seal drawings and carry the professional responsibility that comes with the stamp.
• Confirm compliance against the applicable building codes and the state and local amendments that govern the project.
• Coordinate directly with architects, mechanical and plumbing engineers, owners and contractors. 
• Survey existing conditions and answer the questions that come up during construction.
• Be the person others come to on power systems, and bring less experienced engineers and designers along as you go.

WHAT SENIOR MEANS HERE

Not a number of years. We looked closely at the engineers who do this job well and it comes down to four things.

• You drive the studies and reports. You have personally built the models, run the calculations, and run the analysis, not merely reviewed someone else’s.
• You still help produce construction documents. Senior here means the most capable technical person on the sheet, not someone who is completely removed from the production process.
• You can stand behind a set. You know what you sealed, which code cycle it was built to, and why you made the calls you made.
• You are already the one people ask. Formally or not, you are the reference point on your team for electrical questions.

If that describes you at six years, we want to talk to you. If it describes you at twenty, we want to talk to you. Tell us where you are and we will set the title accordingly.

Qualifications & Experience

•   A Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, architectural engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• An active Professional Engineer license. Pennsylvania, or another jurisdiction with a clear path to Pennsylvania reciprocity. We will ask which states, what year, and which route you took.
• Building MEP consulting engineering experience. You have produced sealed construction document sets for buildings inside an engineering consultancy or a design build engineering group. Construction management, owner representative and installation only backgrounds are a different job.
• Working fluency in Revit and AutoCAD, and capability you can demonstrate in at least one of ETAP, SKM PowerTools or EasyPower.
• Depth in a specific market. Healthcare, life science, higher education, or mission critical.
• Photometric design in AGi32, Visual, or similar software.
• Specification authorship in MasterSpec or similar platform.
• Generation and alternative energy work. Emergency and standby generators, paralleling gear, solar, energy storage.
• Field credentials alongside the license. Master electrician, electrical inspection, infrared thermography, controls or instrumentation.
• Licensure in states beyond your home state.

Additional state licensure is encouraged. If your goal is a specialty, a second discipline or a technical leadership path, we will put it in a written development plan with you rather than leave it to chance.

We protect the hours. Our people work reasonable weeks and take their time off. This is a design seat with normal hours, not a travel and overnight shutdown job. Ask anyone here about it, because it is usually the first thing they bring up.
