Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the design and development of HVAC systems, fans, blowers, and ventilation products. This role provides hands-on experience working alongside cross-functional teams including Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Quality, and Marketing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with design and development of HVAC products including fans, blowers, and air movement systems
  • Create and update 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for components and assemblies
  • Support airflow, thermal, and mechanical design through basic calculations and analysis
  • Participate in prototype builds, testing, and performance validation (airflow, sound, efficiency, etc.)
  • Collect, analyze, and document lab and field performance data
  • Assist in preparing production drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation
  • Support engineering team with product improvements and cost optimization efforts
  • Participate in design reviews and cross-functional project meetings
  • Assist in maintaining engineering files, documentation, and catalog data 

Skills, Education, and/or Experience

The following are education and experience criteria used to evaluate the suitability of candidates for the position:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Must have completed at least one year of a Bachelor of Science program (Program must be ABET recognized)
  • Hands-on experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems or air movement concepts is preferred (CFM, static pressure, fan curves)
  • Exposure to manufacturing methods such as sheet metal fabrication is a plus
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently when needed
  • Eagerness to learn in a hands-on engineering and manufacturing environment

Job Conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and looking at a computer.
  • Occasional standing, walking, or moving between office areas
  • Must have visual acuity to read and prepare documents, emails, and reports
  • Must be able to wear PPE; to include, but not limited to, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, gloves, face shields.

Work Environment:

  • Factory, Warehouse, Distribution Center, Office.
  • The role requires regular use of computer software and enterprise systems, handling confidential information, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  • When on the factory floor, you will encounter a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing setting with exposure to machinery, moderate noise levels, and varying temperatures. 
  • The environment requires adherence to strict safety protocols and the use of PPE.
