Job Summary:

This position’s primary responsibility is the protection of life and property and preservation of the public peace and order and the enforcement of Federal, State and local laws.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Every Patrolman, in carrying out his/her duties of the department, namely: the presentation of the public peace, the prevention of crime and arrest of violators of the law, and the proper enforcement of laws and ordinances, shall constantly direct his/her best efforts to accomplish same, intelligently and efficiently, and shall hold himself/herself ready at all times to answer the calls and obey the orders of his/her superiors. He/she shall be held to strict accountability for the good order of his/her shift or post to which he/she may be assigned to duty, and shall have such regular hours of duty as may be prescribed by the Chief of Police. 

2. A Patrolman shall report for duty in regulation uniform, cleaned and pressed, and not wear articles of uniform that are tattered or badly patched. He/she shall maintain all his/her leather goods in a high polish, brass, buttons, clean and policed, and always have his/her service weapon in perfect working order at all times. 

3. A Patrolman, when assigned to duty, shall faithfully, diligently, constantly, and continuously patrol every part of the limits thereof until the expiration of duty. When required to interrupt his/her regular duties as patrol to give attention to other matters, he/she shall do so in a business-like manner and without unnecessary loss of time, resume the patrolling of his/her beat in the regular manner. 

4. A Patrolman shall discharge his/her duties with coolness and firmness in all cases. In time of peril all available members of the force of all ranks shall act together and assist each other in the restoration of peace and order. 

5. A Patrolman shall make himself/herself thoroughly familiar with the city, including street routes and location of streets, public buildings, hospitals, courts, depots, prominent offices, important industrial plants, highways, and the boundaries of the city. 

knowledge of the city which will enable him/her to render intelligent and helpful information and assistance when requested. 

6. All Patrolmen should educate the public on the value of cooperating with the police, by promptly reporting all suspicious circumstances, on the way the criminal works and how to protect their property and valuables, such as reporting peddlers, solicitors or anyone who appears suspicious. To keep a list of all serial numbers and identifying marks on all possessions. 

7. All patrolmen shall familiarize themselves with the locations of street signs, and if he/she sees them tampered with or misplaced in any manner he/she shall report same to the dispatcher so it can be corrected as soon as possible. 

8. All Patrolmen shall note all sidewalks and street obstructions and report same to appropriate department for correction/repair. When any defects in streets or sidewalks which may be hazardous to traffic or pedestrians is reported, reporting officer will remain at the scene, if so advised by his/her supervisor, until repair personnel arrive or until the hazard has been removed. 

9. A Patrolman shall listen attentively and without interruption to complaints by citizens. If it is a matter he/she can cope with he/she will attend to it immediately; if not, he/she will advise the complainant and direct him or her to the proper officer or office. 10. A Patrolman shall be courteous, discreet, quiet, mannered, a good listener, always alert and observant. He/she shall be cheerful and friendly, and will not be abrupt or brusque in answering questions. 

11. A Patrolman shall not act in a manner which will bring discredit to himself/herself or members of the department. He/she shall feel the reputation of the whole force is in his/her keeping and shall act accordingly. He/she shall make honesty, sobriety and truthfulness his/her aim. 

12. A Patrolman shall note the activity and conduct of all suspicious persons and all persons known of bad character, and make such observations as will enable recognition of them at any time. He/she will particularly note their movements, habits, associations, and premises they enter or frequent. He/she shall learn their names, residences, occupations and keep record of same. 

13. A Patrolman shall note all vehicles if the occupants arouse his/her suspicions in any manner. He/she shall pay particular attention to vehicles used by persons of known bad character. He/she shall note all autos near banks, jewelry stores, drug stores, medical clinics and any business locations that are likely to attract the criminal element. 

14. A Patrolman shall not have in his/her possession a key to any premises in the city without the knowledge and consent of the 


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Must be 21 - 45 years of age and meet I-9 requirements

2. Have a valid Driver's License; Insurable Driving Record

3. Must pass a MMPI

4. Must pass a background Investigation

5. No felony convictions

6. Must pass oral interview board

7. Must pass physical as required by Oklahoma Police Pension Board

8. No Domestic Violence Convictions

9. Good Moral Character

10. CLEET certification preferred
