Digital Consultants is seeking a System Administrator who will oversee the lifecycle management and sustainment of complex systems and network infrastructure supporting mission-critical national defense activities. This role requires expertise in both Windows and Linux environments, strong cybersecurity skills (including STIGs and ACAS scans), and adaptability to fast-changing priorities.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages the configuration and operation of IT systems and applications including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Detects, diagnoses, and resolves server hardware/software issues. Assist users with IT system access and usage. Installs and upgrades software, applies patches, and ensures system integrity. Performs backup and recovery, monitors system configurations, and optimizes resource utilization. Develops policies to align systems with business requirements and defines system needs based on scalability, cost, and integration with existing platforms.


Technical Responsibilities:

Windows Systems Administration

  • Manage and maintain Active Directory (AD), including Group Policy Objects (GPOs), user provisioning, and authentication protocols.
  • Administer Windows Server OS environments (e.g., Server 2019/2022), handling provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Oversee Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft 365 environments, ensuring email routing and security.
  • Manage Windows-based File Share servers, implementing NTFS permissions and Distributed File System (DFS) topologies.
  • Maintain virtualization platforms (e.g., Hyper-V or VMware) hosting Windows environments.

Linux Systems Administration

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers (e.g., Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, CentOS).
  • Write and maintain automation and configuration management scripts (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Bash/Python).
  • Administer Web Servers (Apache, Nginx) and conduct performance tuning to ensure high availability.
  • Support database administrators and developers by maintaining the OS layer of Database Servers (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Monitor system logs, resource utilization, and perform routine security hardening on all Linux endpoints.

Security & Infrastructure Administration

  • Administer the Key Management Server (KMS) and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), managing certificate lifecycles.
  • Conduct routine vulnerability scans, patch management compliance checks, and security audits across systems.
  • Perform Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) using common identified tools scans to ensure security compliance and mitigate vulnerabilities. Collaborate with stakeholders to implement remediation strategies and ensure security compliance.
  • Manage centralized backup and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring RPO and RTO targets are met.
  • Review system audit logs using centralized SIEM tools to detect anomalous activities and mitigate risks.

Core Server and Service Oversight

  • Ensure proper management of the organization's core servers, including:
    • Web Server: Ensure secure hosting of applications with load balancing and Web Application Firewall (WAF) protection for web servers.
    • File Share Server: Implement strict Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), aggressive backup schedules, and quota management.
    • Key Management Server: Encrypt data at rest and in transit while ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
    • Database Server: Optimize high I/O disk performance, implement high availability, and maintain robust backup configurations.

Network Infrastructure Management

  • Provide end-to-end management of the JITC Test Lab network infrastructure, supporting testing and evaluation activities.
  • Plan and execute network modernization projects, maintaining security and capability of infrastructure components.
  • Monitor network health and security, perform preventative maintenance, and resolve user-reported incidents.
  • Deliver detailed incident and after-action reports following network outages or security incidents.
Requirements
  • Clearance: Top Secret/SCI clearance and pass a polygraph
  • Certification: Must hold an IAT Level II certification, such as CompTIA Security+, or equivalent certifications required by DoW 8140.01 (e.g., CCNA, CISSP, RHCS)
  • Education/Experience: Master’s Degree, or a Bachelor's with at least 4 years’ relevant experience; or an Associate’s and at least 6 years of experience in system administration, network management of related technical fields. One year of experience can be substituted by 15 semester hours completed towards a master’s degree. The degree must be in a relevant technical curriculum, and experience must be related to the job duties
  • Expertise in managing Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux server administration and automation using configuration management tools.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (Hyper-V, VMware) and web server management (Apache, Nginx, or IIS).
  • Proficiency in security administration, including encryption, vulnerability scanning, and compliance auditing.
  • Experience performing STIGs and ACAS scans to detect vulnerabilities and enforce security compliance.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure management, including routers, switches, firewalls, and structured cabling.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in government or test lab environments.
  • Advanced scripting skills in Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to handle stress and work well under pressure.

Working Conditions

  • Location: Contractor site with the possibility of up to 40% travel.
  • Environment: General office environment. Work is primarily sedentary but may require standing and walking up to 10% of the time. Standard office equipment is available.
  • Physical Demands: Medium strength demands, with a maximum lift of 50 lbs. and frequent lifting/carrying of up to 25 lbs.
  • Physical Requirements: May involve standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, and use of hands/fingers. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required.
