Our dynamic and community-centered organization is looking to add a talented, conscientious, and resourceful Human Resources (HR) Director to the team. The primary role of this position is to design, implement, and manage human resources strategies, and to administer and evaluate all HR functions to ensure that the Boulder JCC's mission is upheld in its practices and people. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the HR Director provides strategic guidance and insights to promote a positive work environment and enhance employee engagement, contributing to organizational success and sustainability.
The HR Director comprehensively owns and directs HR initiatives with significant authority and autonomy, spanning a wide range of responsibilities including recruiting and onboarding, staff engagement and retention, employee relations, professional development, compensation and benefits administration, policy development, and compliance.
This position requires an affinity to work both independently and collaboratively to handle varied requests and proactively anticipate changing needs. In addition to being organized and people-oriented, this position depends on your analytical and critical thinking skills, discretion and confidentiality, and the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally.
The ideal candidate possesses the strategic acumen to collaborate closely with senior leaders and the technical proficiency to personally execute daily HR operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the HR subject matter expert within the organization and across all administrative and program areas, including Compliance & Risk Management, Talent Acquisition, HR Business Acumen, Total Rewards, & Employee Engagement.
- Organizational Leadership: Act as a strategic leader of the Boulder JCC, embodying the organization's values, priorities, and mission; translating organizational priorities into actionable HR initiatives and strategic priorities, planning for their timely execution.
- HR Process Ownership: Proactively direct and execute HR processes, including the creation and maintenance of policies, the Employee Handbook, staff files, and vendor management.
- Mission Integration: Approach work with sensitivity, confidentiality, and thoughtfulness, placing priority on the Boulder JCC's mission and values and the well-being of staff, program participants, and community members.
- Policy, Compliance, and Risk Management: Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations; stay up to date on best practices and regulatory changes to review and update policies as needed.
- Compensation and Benefits: In collaboration with senior leadership, design and implement the organization-wide compensation program and benchmark offerings to ensure competitiveness; oversee semi-monthly payroll processing; and administer all company benefits and the retirement plan, including compliance, reporting, and plan design evaluation.
- Employee Relations: Provide consultation and guidance to supervisors on HR strategies, coaching, discipline, and employment law compliance; and lead efforts to gather and analyze staff feedback to drive improvements in engagement and retention.
- Recruiting and Onboarding: Oversee the full recruiting process for all staffing; collaborate with hiring managers to develop competitive job offers; and manage the onboarding process to drive new hire engagement, retention, and alignment with organization values. Analyze and implement a recruiting strategy including competitive pay analysis.
- Professional Development: Conduct or organize training programs, including leadership development; and fully orchestrate and lead employee-wide staff meetings in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team. Guide managers on career path and promotional development for their teams.
- Performance Management: Develop and implement performance management systems (including reviews, coaching, and monitoring) that align organization-wide and individual metrics.
COMPENSATION
This is a full-time, exempt salaried position with a salary range of $93,990 to $109,256 commensurate with experience. Employee benefits currently include health insurance (medical, dental, and vision) with access to a health savings account (HSA) with generous employer contributions, a 403(b) retirement savings plan with immediate vesting and an employer match up to 4%, voluntary disability, life, and accident insurance, substantial staff discounts, as well as plentiful time off (vacation, sick, and holidays including a full week during Thanksgiving).
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; and eight years of relevant work in the human resources field (non-profit experience preferred); Experience as a strategic leader on an executive team preferred.
- Certification: HR Certification (PHR/SPHR) strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of HR functions, policies, technologies, and procedures (familiarity with Paylocity a plus). Ability to learn and adapt to new technology quickly. Ability to execute daily HR tasks and processes including payroll, benefits administration, training, recruiting & onboarding, and similar tasks.
- Soft Skills: Well-developed people skills with the ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and discretion. Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally.
- Organization & Analytical Skills: Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills.

This position is on-site and works primarily during business hours with the ability to work remotely when necessary. While performing regular duties, you will be required to sit, stand, reach, walk, or kneel, and to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
